Great topic! I made some basic icons, but later I want to make them colorful. Hope you enjoy!

Great work so far! I was wondering how you were able to make the folder icons change at smaller sizes. I tried but to no avail.
Here is my attempt, the desired results, and the resources I used. If someone could tell me what I did wrong and fix it, I would love to help this effort.

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and I have a question for you designers. (Sorry if I missed a similar question /answer)

Today I upgraded to Windows 11 and I really enjoy the aesthetics of it. I normally have a set of custom folder icons for my Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign project folders. Now, since the generic folder icon got an update, I'd really want to "update" those icons to fit in with the other folder icons. I also already grabbed a few icons from @davidvkimball (the Adobe folder) and @Lucas North.

Now finally, here is my question: How do you guys manage to catch the look of the folders? Gradients, colors, lighting etc. I can't find a .psd file anywhere, and I am really struggling to get a consistent look on my custom folders from a .png file I found earlier in this thread.

I'd be super happy if someone could enlighten me, as I'm a designer myself, and somehow I can't get my head around it.

Especially @davidvkimball i am amazed by your work. :)

I'm a bit in the same case as you ! I'd like contribute a little with creations in this thread to help a bit.
I guess using the generic folder as a template is enough, and regarding softwares, I think David is using Illustrator & IcoFX, Lucas maybe another PhotoShop soft. I wrote them about it a while ago, they were probably too busy at the time to answer and now the mail got lost (!)

As you can see, I'm not the only one requiring tips to start learning, though I can understand you cannot give away your main knowledge you maybe paid for through courses or/and long experience. You are free to tell me or not by mail.
By the way, I made a bit of advertisement of the two of you in a french forum I participate, called "Team-aaz". I made a topic about the Windows 11 icons theme by niivu (from DeviantArt) and other complementary softs and icons (as yours). If you like you can have a peep at it, but I tried the Google translation into English, and many parts are awful unfortunately (usually, it's not always that bad).

Okay so since i'm stuck at home currently, i thought i give it a try to recreate the folder icon.
It's not perfect but it's a start.

Here is the .ai if anyone is interested:

(I worked with gradients, so you can change the colors easily. It's also 512px wide)

If I use a custom icon, does it have to be permanently stored somewhere or does Windows save it somewhere?
