Custom Icons for Windows 11 Thread (Folders, Dropbox, Google Drive, Podcasts, NVME Drive, Steam, Adobe)

I just want to change the default yellow folder colors to a blue one. What's the best way to do that? With the default folder icons on desktop, you can see partially what's inside (see image below). I want the folder colors blue but also have this preview functionality. Is this possible?

There's a 3rd Party software called FolderMarker. I've been using it for years.

For me, it's easier to use FolderMarker, because I don't have to place the .ico files anywhere and mess with all that. . lol I hate using 3rd party software, but I don't have the patience.

I completely understand that just wanting to quickly tweak color or/and add logo "on the spot" is cool and easy.

But it is good to know that these folders are precisely not random ones, and are ment especially to replace the default ones.
This way, each time you create a new folder, thumbnail or zip folder, these blue ones will automatically appear.
Unlike to usual tweaked icons by 3rd party made only in 256, (or luckily more if basically converted in smaller sizes), these fluent blue folders are the exact replica of the original ones in each size, they will appear in perfect quality everywhere.

System icon location should be in C:\Windows\SystemResources\imageres.dll.mun file (latest builds),
or in C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll (older builds).

For any other custom folders, I think it's a good idea that the ico file is directly placed in the dedicated folder as hidden, with its desktop.ini file. This way the icon is "portable". (what FolderMaker, ThumbnailGenerator... automatically do)

Here's how to make the desktop.ini hidden file :
Create a new text document named "desktop" and copy/paste this, replacing **** with the ico file name.

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=****.ico
IconIndex=0

Then change the .txt extension into .ini and confirm action in dialog box.
To hide files, go in Properties and tick "Hidden"

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it... :) one question, what is my best option to install all the icons that were shared in the Windows 11 Ultimate Icons Pack Archive, in the shell folder?

I downloaded IconPackager but Im having a hard time figuring it out, how to install all those system icons, there are more than 400 in that folder and I dont see that many icons available to change in IconPackager

Hi @ParisBridge,

As I explained before, I am not the direct author, but in fact I asked for extra versions from the 7-Zip folders @Mr4Mike4 originally made.
No worries, I will ask him next time, but I gave him plenty of work recently, cause he also tweaked the latest CustomizatorGod thumbnail folders (8 different prototype versions).
I just realized they also needed a bit readjusting. (Will be available if author @Lexx911 accepts)

By the way, I did also tweak this one to be properly "with content" in all 8 different sizes. (yep, Microsoft only put content on the 256 size, and made all the smaller ones like an ordinary one). So I will ask for this version to be tweaked. Same thing with the "No Shadow" folder. Smaller sizes do have shadow. Made the reworked version also.

Just be a bit patient, ;-)
See you soon.

Hi @ParisBridge
"There you go" just replied Mr4Mike4 with the following simple attached file !

That's very nice from him to contribute, though he's not part of the thread.
I suggested a little tip, as he also tweaked other ones for me, but I got no feedback for this (!)

Fluent Blue - With Content.pngFluent Blue - No Shadow.png
Microsoft originally applies the aspect on the main 256 size, and replace all the others by the default "with shadow" aspect.
I tweaked them to make aspects appear correctly in all smaller sizes.

@TizianoMad Thank you. You and Mr4Mike4 have created something really awesome. This is how the default Windows 11 icons should've looked like. BTW, how do you correctly apply the "Thumbnail Fluent Blue - Short Front.ico"? I applied it to ID: #6 icon in CustomizerGod but it didn't have any effect. When I applied the "Thumbnail Fluent Blue - Front.ico" it worked fine.
