OS
Windows 11
Hello, within the new few months I'm planning on building my first custom gaming PC. I have a certain aesthetic I'm trying to achieve which is an all white build with RGB lights. My problem is I have a Zotac Gaming Geforce RTX 4060 TI 16GB that I plan to reuse in this build because it's a faily new purchase of mine, and It came with a themed backplate of Spider-Man, Across the Spider-Verse. I don't personally have anything against Spider-Man it's just not what I'm going for. I did find someone on Etsy who custom makes new backplates however the issue is I plan on using the Hyte Y60 case will full glass view and vertical mounting therefore I would not even see the backplate in this position. My thoughts instead are to potentially take apart the graphics card and spray paint whitr the parts that would be visible.

Would this be a good idea?
If not, what would you suggest/recommend?

I have tried searching Google and Youtube for my video card and instructions on how to customize or paint or even disassemble but I'm not finding anything close to what I'm looking for. Is there any tutorials available for this I could research?

Thanks!

Hi Arilyboo. Can we see a photo of your backplate in your PC? I’m just curious if it would be less dangerous to tape it well, as apposed to disassembling it.

Sure! This is the Front, Back and Backplate. My thoughts are if I'm not going to see the back I'm not going to touch it or use the backplate. But, if I can take out the fans to paint and paint that front panel I think that'll be good.

My thoughts would be, if you’re not going to see it (if I understand correctly) don’t touch it. If you still have an urge. There are no vents on the backplate, you cant see beyond it. I would personally wrap cling wrap around the card (not the backplate) and then use painters tape and secure it around the edge and underneath.
To be fair, I spray painted cars for a short period and am used to taping. Others might agree with the option, that disassembling would be safer.

The front part with the fans would be visible through the glass with it mounted vertically in the Hyte Y60 case, so that's what I would like to paint if possible. I can't find a tutorial and not sure if it would be a good idea or if it would ruin the card.

So you want to paint it all white. My apologies, I don’t think I followed you correctly.
Is this of any help to you? In this video, the card is disassembled.

Have you considered water cooling the GFX card and possibly the CPU also, which would require you remove the backplate etc...

You could paint the water blocks white and also run a frosted white coolant to blend in with your theme.

That way you could keep things cooler and not destroy anything by painting it.

Then later on you could restore the card for another build perhaps?

Just a thought.

There is a plastic based spray paint, which can actually be removed, peeled off or trimmed. I will ask my mate the spray painter to tell me what it’s called and get back to you ASAP.

My husband was in the automotive business for 50 years and built a lot of custom cars. He always used a high temperature automotive paint made specially for plastic. VHT was his preferred brand..

I called him, he was under a car lol
In Australia, we call it “Plastic Dip” paint.
Here is an example, read the product info, note the temperature range.

I've never used it, but I've heard of a product sold in the US as "Plasti Dip". I've read of it in the context of an easily removable coating for cars.

I'm dubious about painting the fans. I wouldn't use Plasti Dip on them. I picture it peeling, with the bits getting stuck in the heat sink. Probably not a disaster, but a little messy.

Thank you! I'll check this out. What kind of paint should I use? Like I know spray paint but there are different types.

Do not paint the GPU fans.
Contact Zotac and ask them where to buy compatible "white" fans.
Ask if they sell "white" chassis parts for your vid card.

I wouldn't try to paint any part of your vid card.
Some paints will melt plastic. Some won't be able to handle the heat a vid card generates.

I know you don't want to spend money, but you might think about selling your current 4060 Ti, and just buying a "white" vid card instead.

White... 4060 Ti vid cards...

Zotac even has a "white" 4060 Ti...

Image1.png

They may have spare, replacement fans and shroud, that they would sell?
I would think they would be compatible with "your" 4060 Ti.

Bloke across the road used plastic dip spray paint to paint his Tesla logo Red (or paint a tesla logo) on the front of his car. I can’t remember which. He hits 125kmph in no time at all and travels at that speed on quiet roads. It’s stayed on rain hail or shine for a couple of years.
But I agree, I wouldn’t paint the fans.

My sincerest apologies, Arily. I slip up sometimes, I try my hardest to address members usernames for this exact reason. I have two sons, and the phrase “Do you know what he’s done now?” is used so much by me, I have “he” burnt into my brain. :D Please forgive me 🙏

I did contact them via their website and they said that they don't sell parts out individually and that they don't have any recommendations about who would. They were basically no help at all.
I did find new fans looking through google but I don't want to purchase from a rando website that could be a scam lol.
I was hoping to find someone on Etsy or some place that could sell customized parts or whatever but haven't found nothing yet.
