Solved Dark Task Manager

Here is a screenshot of my dark Task Manager. Who finds this user friendly?
I'm not into changing things simply for the sake of change. Can you easily read the menus?
I've added red arrows to make it easier for you.

Don't have that here. My dark theme is fine. You may have configured your colors &/or theme or made other UI changes, e.g. 3rd party app, to get that effect. IDK. Have you checked your settings?

My icons and text are dark against a dark background. It's a huge strain on my eyes.
I've looked everywhere, but I can't seem to change it without changing the Taskbar to a washed out, faded look.

But Brink is reporting that starting with Windows 11 build 22626.891 and Windows 11 build 25247, you can change the Task Manager theme.

I think to fix my problem, I need to be able to change windows title bar text color. It may also change the Task Manager icons as well.
The title bar text color is black, so any dark colored title bars make it very hard to read.

It's simple in Windows 10, but I can't find it in Windows 11.

For people using dark themes, this is not an issue.
But for people like myself preferring light themes, it's like I'm fighting against Windows 11 to make it work.
Below is a simple example of the Notepad title bar and text to show you what I'm talking about.

Notepad.png

And it only seems to happen to Windows 11 system apps.
Here is the title bar and text in AkelPad using the same Windows color settings. It's fine.

AkelPad.png

If you change Accent Color to Manual, then turn on "Show accent color on title bars and windows borders", you can change the title bar color. You may have to pick a customized color to make it legible. I haven't worked out how to change the title bar text color yet.

The other problem with that is, it doesn't work for Task Manager or File Explorer. But File Explorer is legible anyway. But, still no solution for Task Manager, which is the original problem.

I just realized that this is a known issue if you have Windows Mode and App Mode set to a mix of Light and Dark.
It's mentioned in Brink's tutorial.
Task Manager Not Displayed Properly Tutorial Notice.png

Also, if you have both of them set to Light, you get a similar problem with the system tray icons.

Back in Windows 10 I was playing around with the inactive title bars. I had a similar problem.
This is what I did... (Win 10 pics)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM

Create here a new 32-bit DWORD value named AccentColorInactive.
For MY computer, I set the value at: Hex 484848

This is what I ended up with, on Win 10 and on Win 11 (In-Place upgrade from 10 to 11).

Image1.png

My overall colors are set like this on Win 10 and Win 11...

Image1.png

Not sure where to put these in your cases... but here's Shawn's hex color codes...
I just guesstimated between Black and Dim Grey
000000 and 696969

Image1.png

And here's the Win 10 tutorial for title bar text color...
I don't know if this works on Win 11 or not.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I doubt if the Task Manager can be fixed for anyone using a Windows Mode and App Mode set to a mix of Light and Dark.
Have a look at the images in the tutorial of what you get when you do.
One way, you get a light, faded look, and if you switch them around, you get a dark look. In both instances, the text and icons are barely visible.

Windows Mode - App Mode.png

I think we'll just have to wait for Microsoft to fix it.

I have this problem too. Seems like it's a bug. Should be able to have dark theme and light apps (works with everything else, after all)

Yes, it's a bug, Alex.
Have a look at my previous post.
