Hi folks
I accidently wiped an SD card with a load of files on it I needed and hadn't yet backed up to cloud.

This utility worked perfectly
--sorry folks it's in Linux but use a VM / stand alone Live system or even the Linux subsystem for Linux

Install a utility called testdisk

I selected all the files but you can choose any -- note on the initial menu on file systems for Windows / PC choose INTEL -- it's quite simple - screen instructions are clear.

This worked and is FREE -- worked better than a few "Pro --i.e paid for" stuff with a trial --.

Recommended if you lose data -- we've all done it at some time or other !!!!!

Cheers

Hi there
Any good ones -- always interested.

I can replicate the thing I did on the SD card and try it with a Windows thing -- I want to try a FREE one though. Not a hobbled or trial version. !!

What the tool needs to do is after you've done Clean on a disk with diskpart is to be able to recover pretty well all the data on it. If I need a stand alone boot tool that's fine too. I don't need to "edit sectors" or that type of stuff.

Thanks

Cheers

Hi there
I don't like "hobbled versions" where the actual useful bit is the stuff you have to PAY for !!! -- and I especially dislike software that also installs other stuff (CCleaner) or whatever too.

So I'll pass on that one.

I'm happy with my Free No Nag app -- even if it runs on Linux. It does what it says on the tin -- no ads, no "Go Pro to unlock feature xxxx etc".

Cheers

To each his own as they say. Not really hobbled, unless virtual hard drive a must, and CCleaner easy enough to uninstall. The price is right so thought I'd mention it is all.

testdisk as available as a Windows programme (it runs a command window when opened). You can find it easily (cgsecurity, org).

I've used it several times to recover a USB disk partition I'd mistakenly deleted. Works fine if one takes care. It does present a good range of options to deal with mistakes of this nature. And it most certainly is freely available and complete.

A good addition to a a recovery arsenal, in my experience.

Hi Jimbo,

You found a good one. I've used testdisk and it worked flawlessly. I use it in Windows as a portable.

Take a look at Recuva older free version.
Hi steveg,

I can't endorse Recuva (especially over testdisk). Recuva only recovered a hand full of files and they were not in their original names. They came back in a naming series like "T001, T002, etc.". I was really disappointed.

Kind regards,

tecknot
