I'm perfectly happy using Windows Home as Windows Pro has zero advantage to offer me. I don't need Group Policy Editor and have no desire or need for Bitlocker.

That's fine for many -- but for people doing a lot of tinkering etc - it's far from ideal. These days also there are some really good deals on W11 Pro so the cost difference is negligible. Some cheap minipc's for example even come with full W11 Pro installed.

i use Windows home on both mine and my wifes system i also dont need the added bells and whistles that pro has especially remote desktop, GPedit i have installed on home it has some nice settings for the network setting them all to 'public' as default and a few others

i would sooner MS done a very basic version, i can add my own software as i dont use MS software other then the OS.

Yeah, I would love a "custom install" option to run a minimal install and then just install each additional component manually. This is what i do with my Linux installs. Minimal install and just install the actual tools and components I need.
