Solved Demise of RebitPro due to EOL

I've just been notified that my LOCAL backup app - RebitPro - is comming to EOL, and I'm only being offered a CLOUD based solution as a replacement.

Basically, you load RebitPro at startup, and it runs in background, automatically being aware of ANY files that are altered / created and automatically backs them up.

I've been offered 'Zmanda Endpoint Backup' - which is RebitPro+ - which has the same functionality - however this app only backs up to the cloud.

Can anyone suggest a local backup app with the same functionality?

I do take regular images of my OS and user data,; however, RebitPro works best for individual files.

Might want to try Karen's Replicator. It's similar.
You can set up whatever backup job you want, and set it to run on a schedule... whatever you'd like...
It keeps track of any changes made to the source drive/partition that's listed in the "job".
When the schedule runs, it copies those changes to the destination drive/partition.

That sucks. But is there any chance it will just keep on working for local backups?

I see on their web page that it says "Rebit uses CDP technology to automatically backup all changes that occur on your system every 30 seconds, waiting until the system is idle to avoid any performance impact."

Other backup software such as Simple Data Backup and Karen's Replicator can be set to run on a frequent schedule, but that's not quite the same. Waiting for idle would seem to be an important difference.

Searching on Windows Continuous Data Protection, I came across, Live File Backup. It appears to be a suitable replacement.

A couple potentials:

1) FreeFileSync (www.freefilesync.org). It includes real time sync capabilities.

2) You can even setup robocopy to monitor for changes and perform copy, move, etc. when changes occur.

I've tried Live File Backup before, so I will give another try-out.

I use something similar and the interface is something I understand (easy to use). It's main purpose is to monitor a folder(s) and make a copy of the files in real time to a second location, usually encrypted. The idea is that the copies that are encrypted would be saved to the cloud if you do that.

You do not have to use the encryption or the cloud if you do not want to. The encryption uses 7-Zip so if you need to access a certain file, you could use 7-Zip on an individual file, or setup the folders in reverse in CryptSync. Of course if you don't use the encryption the files would be copied as is.

I use CryptSync for my documents, email, and AppData/Roaming folder, encrypted, to my backup drive and I do not notice any slowdown.
