Desktop hangs due to a location scanning app

Sometimes the Windows Web Experience Pack scans for the location for about 5-6secs and a location pointer icon can then be seen in the systray.
During that time, desktop icons can not be clicked on as if it's hanging. So far I was able to reproduce this on 3 Windows 11 22H2 devices.

Anyone else noticed this at their end?

I've never seen this behavior, but are you still really on buld 22621.1265?
The RTM build is currently on 22621.1848.
Maybe update your system and see if the problem remains.

It is already on, also for the Windows Web Experience Pack specifically.


Apart from the hanging issue, do you guys notice a location icon sometimes appearing in the systray for the Web Experience Pack at all?

To my knowledge when a location icon appears in task bar only for a short time and then disappears it's an indication that there is a problem with the location feature.

There was a similar bug with MS edge in application guard when the location for desktop programs was blocked.
So you can check in the same location from my previous post and see if "Let desktop apps access your location" is turned on.

Are you sure about the icon indicating an issue? I thought it just shows conveniently when an app is using your location.
So you never seen that icon before in the systray?

That option is also turned on btw.

I'm not 100% sure, just saying out my experience with the location, unless I'm wrong, the location icon should stay for as long as your location is used by an app or web browser.

Which is the case indeed for me. It appears and then vanishes, but it's weird that my desktop icons are not clickable during that time.

What I would try is this:

1. clear event viewer completely
2. disable location completely, reboot system and then enable again.
3. take a look into event viewer for any error or warning about the location.

Thanks, but I actually don't see any error around the time the location icon appears.

Something that I noticed though:
It seems that the Web Experience Pack uses your location the moment you wake up the monitor from standby. In that case the temporary hanging issue with selecting the desktop icons occurs.
But whenever the Web Experience Pack uses your location while I'm working on my PC (the monitor is aready on) I don't experience that hanging issue.

This occurs on 3 of my Windows devices.

I you want to make sure that's the problem then uninstall Web Exp. pack and try to repro.

I don't know how else to troubleshoot this, other than eliminating all possibilities.
