Desktop refresh often soon after start up

Fairly often, a few minutes or so after starting my desktop PC , I see the desktop icons being refreshed. I assume something has been updated, though perhaps not Windows itself as that's usually more obvious.

I've tried to have Task Manager open and watch the activity but not seen anything. Had a look at the logs in Event Viewer but couldn't see anything pertinent.

Is there any way of finding what these updates might be? Or if not updates then what might be causing the refreshes.

I don't have any issues, merely curious.

Quite often after I restart or even from cold boot, the desktop will load and then screen flashes black for about half a second and then the icons come back. Whether it's same as you are seeing , I can not say. I don't shut my computer off or restart all that often so never really questioned it when I do.

That sounds to be similar. I turn my PC off regularly, certainly every night, so perhaps seeing it more often as the various apps look for updates and apply them.
