Running offline SFC from WinRE (Windows won’t boot):

diskpart
list volume (find the Windows partition letter)
exit

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=X:\ /offwindir=X:\Windows

Replace both X values with the Windows partition letter.

edit:

/offbootdir - Windows partition root (e.g. D:\)
/offwindir - Windows directory (e.g. D:\Windows)

ChatGPT:

SFC does not read or repair:
  • the EFI System Partition
  • BCD
  • bootloader files (bootmgfw.efi)
That is handled by bcdboot, not SFC.

From the Diskpart List vol command I can see two System Fat32 partitions.
As it doesn't specify in what drive they are:
- How many drives you have on your system?
- If the two System Fat32 partitions are on same drive, witch one is the one that you used to boot from?

I didn't read all the posts, so I ask if you tested your drives and if positive, how did you tested them?

Hi Megahertz,

There are two drives (one HDD (main) and one SSD (second data)). I deleted the first listed EFI System partition which was on the second drive. Boot record(/files) was successfully created on the main drive.

I did do a chkdsk D:\Windows /f, and all checked out without any bad sectors.

Just as a remark, the OS drive should be on the fast drive (SSD) and data should be on the slow drive (HDD). That's how my laptop and desktop are configured.


Boot from a Win 8.1 or Win 10 installation drive and at the Windows Setup screen, press Shift+F10 simultaneously to open a command line prompt and type:

diskpart
list disk (it will list all drives. Identify the main drive number)
select disk n (replace n by the main drive number obtained with list disk)
list part
exit
With a cell phone take a snapshot and paste it here. DON'T use external links
