Hi friends,
Could you please tell me which readings are correct between these two sets of readings from different utilities, do I have to check with another utility?

Hi,
Never good to use two monitoring apps either can mess with the others sensor readings
The new security features block hwinfo64 from working properly and likely your other to
Newer hwinfo I've had issues with so I use an older v6.08 portable version that doesn't have the newer v7 version issues.
Easy to use download anywhere
Right click the zip folder and go to properties and check the unblock box and save.
Extract all and right click 64 bit exe file and send to desktop create short cut.
But yeah coretemp or realtemp are less resource hungry and polling is way less to

HWiNFO - Download

For quick realtime readings I use CoreTemp. It reads each individual core and displays highest reading in my task tray. I can open its interface or hover over the reading in the task tray to see temps across cores.

I really don't trust any of those programs.
I have a Digital temperature sensor that I like to use. (first finger on left hand) that tells me in an instant if I have a CPU cooling problem. :lmao:

If the cpu heat sink is too hot, it's probably time to clean the fan and heat sink.
There's really only a few degrees between "boy, that feels warm" and "OUCH!!!" "Ouch" gets an immediate power down and a thorough cleaning of the cpu heat sink and fan.
I can go into my BIOS and check on the temperatures and fan speed.

Sometimes is it not clear whether the CPU temperature is from the CPU die or CPU socket. It makes a difference. This is not to be confused by the motherboard temperature which may or may not indicate the chipset temperature.

All these programs are probably reading a one byte memory location where the temperature sensor stores its data. Some kind of algorithm then has to be used to convert this value into a corresponding temperature. What is unknown sometimes is the proper offset and way to calibrate this. If the data from the sensor is non-linear that complicates things even more.

Since all these temperatures are only estimates we should not worry about the absolute accuracy of them.

BTW, I also use Core Temp but I keep it minimize in the tray and display the temperatures with the Core Temp gadget. Note I had to use 8GadgetPack so that I use gadgets in Windows 10 and 11.
