I've spent the last week trying to disable all the crap that Windows 11 thrusts in your face.

Today's nonsense - Focus.

I don't know what it is but I know I don't want it. I'm trying to open an app, but MS insists this is some kind of Focus session, whatever that is.

How can I remove this Focus rubbish ?

All I want is an operating system....

....reaches for lump hammer

Go with ThrashZone's tip (y) or Settings>focus Assist and turn off

Everything is turned off

f-off.png

but when I click clock, I get this

clock.png

All I wanted to do was set a 2 hour alarm for my baked spuds, but nanny (Microsoft) knows best.

Unwanted pop up windows that stop you doing what you want and won't go away until you click 'yes' is more like the behaviour of a virus than an operating system.

BTW I discovered that clicking the 3 bars top left gives a menu which has the timer. Well done nanny for hiding that.

Hello, :-)

Be sure you also turn off all automatic rules for focus assist. They can automatically turn on focus assist.

If all automatic rules are turned off, then toggle on and off focus assist to clear the glitch.

I looked at those 2 links above, and just remembered focus assist used to pop up when I used the volume control. Why does nanny think I need help to change the sound level in Netflix ?

Not sure what I clicked, but I managed to make focus assist go away from the volume control - but then it re-appeared on clocks & alarm.

This 'helpful popup that actually stops you working' reminds me of the aggro I once had with 'get even more out of windows'.

I have 4 headless boxes that only do one thing - run Maxon render client for Cinema 4D. One day all 4 went down, and I found they were all locked up with a full screen ransomware-type message telling me to get more out of windows by using one drive, office, hello etc. The boxes were setup to logon automatically and load the software. Ironically, nanny's message to get even more out of windows had stopped the machines from booting.

Turned out to be notification BS - just like the timer clock malarkey.

Anyhow, thread closed.
