No, not a troll vid. I ran across the vid several months back, trying to help eliminate the issue on a friend's Win 10 PC.

It worked perfectly. But I totally understand, if you wish not to apply it. Although if you do, and it doesn't resolve the spinning circle issue, it will hurt nothing, and/or it is very simple to reverse, and you'll be beck to square one.

Of course, you should give GK's suggestion a try. I can't say enough good things about the advice she has given to many people.

The bit you are not getting is if it is a performance issue elsewhere then getting rid of ribbon will only hide the issue.

You will still get a performance reduction - it just will not be obvious.
