DISM.exe Cleanup-Image

Component Cleanup only removes all BUT the last (newest) folder, in the LCU folder.
The 224MB is from one of the smallest updates. Generally they are about 1GB for each Microsoft Tuesday update.

I'm referring to the folder(s) inside the LCU folder. But I believe we did just have a very small one, on Windows 11.
I'm on 22000.348

There's no one size fits all answer.
As zbook and I both mentioned, even without cleaning up after Windows updates, there will still be some updates that can't be removed.

The object of running Disk Cleanup and Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup, is to remove "junk files" from the Windows drive.

The sfc /scannow and the restore health commands, are for troubleshooting and repair.




As MANY have mentioned, the answer to just about everything is... use backup software.
Restoring from a backup completely overwrites the Windows install, with the saved backup.
It's like a time machine.
With backup software you can undo anything that you did or that has just happened, to your computer. :)

This has been my approach. If there are any new issues with my system I will make a Macrium Image and then restore with the one done previously. I do weekly backup.

After the restoration I will go into Macrium image to retrieve data that would have changed during the week. This includes Thuderbird folder in users Raoming folder. Since the days when I played with OS2 Warp I have all my important documents in a root folder called "Personal". I would copy this from the image back to my restored system. Pictures and videos are in a separate SSD in my desktop.

I read the 2 pages on this post, & did the analyze Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore & mine says ComponentStore cleanup recommendation: NO - the info is very Good. They go back to 2021..... any new comments, thanks for your time - cheers
