Do I Need to Renew Malwarebytes Premium when expires? Or would i be fine without it?

Hello All

Should i renew Malwarebytes Premium when expires in November? If should renew, then works on saving funds to afford that renewal for all 3 household systems. Other Protection is Windows Security/Defender, and do make sure backups are done with Macrium Reflect X

((might try to secure Malwarebytes Premium Key early, and save it, and i'll be all set for November, thats how i did it last year and year before))

For computers that you use exclusively, using MS Defender along with an ad blocker and Malwarebytes Browser Guard is probably enough, as long as you are careful with links, downloads, and scams. For family or household members who might not be as careful, it may be argued in some circles that using Bitdefender, ESET, Avast/AVG, and Kaspersky (where applicable) will provide somewhat better protection. I'm surprised people are still using Malwarebytes. I think it's resting on its laurels.
It was handy back in the days when Windows was very vulnerable, but those days are gone.

Years ago, I used to get lots of work removing malware, but that work has dried up.
I haven't seen malware in more than a decade. I think Malwarebytes would be more of a hindrance than a help.

Well i've always kept it in thus far--might still, or might not in the future, weighing that carefully thus far. As i definitely want the systems secure, and safe from any threats, and not a hindrance to anything

Ask yourself whether it's ever saved you from any real threats. I don't mean PUPs or cookies.

I think a lot of people are still recommending it, including some tech forums. But if you watch new malware technical reports and search for the hashes on VirusTotal, it seems better to use OTHER solutions that pick up new malware faster. I am also perplexed about what technical metrics people use to choose Malwarebytes over other third-party solutions.

personally i find that malwarebytes is some what over priced
i keep the free version on USB, just in case, but have never had to use it.
malewarebytes browser guard i do use but others are available.

i have AVG Internet security which i only purchase on discount 2 years at a time
for 3 systems, its only used on two systems, and Windows defender behind that backing AVG up.
also to add i have protonVPN which seems to take care of most things.

thus far on 2 systems no problems.

Well, as I was grandfathered into a lifetime license of MWB Premium, and since MWB runs really well side by side with Defender, AND since I have never (knock on wood) been infected with anything running the two, I'll stay with it.

Well guess for now i'll keep it installed, and decide when its closer to renewal time if gonna or not. If i can spend less on Doordash, i'll have no problem affording it, but also need to save to replace 2 Windows 10 Computers this fall as well

Some years ago, yes, though not in recent years. But then I haven't picked up anything Defender has squawked about either. I am a firm believer the user is the best defense against malware and viruses( Most of the stuff in the wild is malware these days and that has always been MWB specialty) I am very careful where I go and what I click on.

Most of these 3rd party virus things were fine years ago when Windows security was almost a contradiction in terms. Domestic computers running W11 with bog standard WD are probably more than safe enough. I doubt if any domestic machine gets seriously infected with malware. The biggest danger to domestic users isn't the Chinese / N.Koreans etc but private information obtained by scams (very difficult to protect against via software) and users putting too much personal info out on social media sites.

Those old 3rd party Virus solutions these days are just C20 applications trying to continue to derive an income in C21.

If "scams" above include all sorts of "social engineering," that probably will be true. But social engineering can mean malicious downloads (in exchange for desirable items like free programs, mods, and cheats), malicious ads, and malicious links (to something like fake CAPTCHA and ClickFix malware distribution mechanisms).

I like having the protection of Malwarebytes, but I do have old perpetual licences, on systems I don't have Malwarebytes on, I use malware blocking DNS like Cloudflare 1.1.1.2/1.0.0.2 or 9.9.9.9 for the extra layer of protection.
