Do you see this in Edge with IPv6?

I decided to test IPv6 connectivity this morning, and I see this message on both Edge and latest Edge beta - "Your browser has a real working IPv6 address, but is avoiding using it". I have not seen this before, are you getting it, and do you think it's a concern?

Interesting. I don't see that particular message in Edge at Test your IPv6. but I do see one saying "Your DNS server ... appears to have no access to the IPv6 internet...". Firefox on the other hand, running at the same time on the same machine, shows a perfect 10/10.

Interesting. I get a 10/10 using Edge and BT as my ISP.

@Awalt and @Bree

Okay my ignorance on total display here (forgive me), but this thread piqued my interest. Never gave it any thought before, honestly.

I went into Network Control, Right clicked of Ethernet > Properties. A dialog box opened, and both IPv4, and IPv6 is checked.

Yet obviously I have no Ipv6, as evidenced by the screenshot below.

@Bree, as you know I have the one old desktop PC. However, it is behind a wired only router.

My question is, could it be that I need to go into the router to change a setting to access IPv6?

Just curious and would appreciate any insight anyone wishes to impart.

Thank you.

I have been able to reproduce that result, not in Edge but in Firefox. I restarted my router whine my browsers remained open. On reconnecting by WiFi the test in Firefox said "Your browser has a real working IPv6 address, but is avoiding using it". It would appear that Firefox may have determined that there was an issue with IPv6 connectivity and had fallen back to using IPv4. Closing and restarting Firefox restored the normal 10/10 result.

No sir.

It is Spectrum (Charter). I suppose there was really no need for me to edit that out, sorry. :wink:

Whether your PC can use an IPv6 address on the Internet depends on both your router and your ISP supporting IPv6. It is quite likely that your router supports IPv6 and allocates you PC an IPv6 address. Open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG to check. But unless your ISP also supports using IPv6 you will only be able to use IPv6 for connectivity on your local network, not out to the Internet.

@WXC do some Google searching of Spectrum Charter IPv6, it has been supported for several years it appears. It's possible you have to turn it on, on your router. I saw some info on how to get it working via Google search, not sure if it's applicable or not but it should work for you.

For comparison, I do have full IPv6 internet connectivity. This is what I see in IPCONFIG (I use a WiFi connection).

@WXC do some Google searching of Spectrum Charter IPv6, it has been supported for several years it appears. It's possible you have to turn it on, on your router. I saw some info on how to get it working via Google search, not sure if it's applicable or not but it should work for you.

Thank you, Awalt.

That was my initial thought. I will indeed investigate further now, because my curiosity is amplified. lol

I much appreciate, your kind follow up. (y)

For comparison, I do have full IPv6 internet connectivity. This is what I see in IPCONFIG (I use a WiFi connection).

Thank you, buddy.

Also, I should clarify my previous statement, where I said, "wired only router". In fact, it is Wi-Fi capable, I just elected to turn the wireless off.

I purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse, so I could jack around in the family room on the Samsung TV...reading a few emails, playing music videos through my surround sound system, and the sort. Tired of it within a week and gave the keyboard and mouse to one of the neighbor kids. lol

At this point I'm not really worried about it. Soon I will purchase a new PC and will actually delve into it seriously further.

I do however, appreciate your reply, as always. :wink:

~~~ Odd isn't it, hand me a scrap of paper with a sketch of anything, from a toolbox to a complex home, and I can build it, yet I still know little about computers. ~~~ :unsure:
I decided to test IPv6 connectivity this morning, and I see this message on both Edge and latest Edge beta - "Your browser has a real working IPv6 address, but is avoiding using it". I have not seen this before, are you getting it, and do you think it's a concern?
Are you using a VPN connection, for instance to mask your geolocation?
I am seeing exactly the same, when on VPN connection, but never when VPN is not connected.
In any case, that's not an issue, nothing to worry.
Kari
