I'm just curious as to how many people use it. For the record, I don't.

Sometimes. I turn it off if I need to boot from a USB and sometimes forget to turn it back on.

I do, even though it is flawed and still has old vulnerabilities. For me, why not? Won't be much of a hassle again until the 2023 CA expires. I will be dead by then. lol

I can completely understand not using it though as a home user as it really isn't necessary for that case.

Old and forgotten "shims" Microsoft failed to revoke have made Secure Boot bypasses simple.

secure boot is enabled, all BIOS's are password protected, for all my systems which have now been fully updated to the new 2023 certs
all older certs, 2011, and shims have been removed.

I use Secure Boot, not that I want my PC to be secure. My logic is, if my PC is capable of running Secure Boot, why shouldn't I use it because I paid for it when I bought the M/B ?

The bad side of Secure Boot for me is, I have two Windows installations. Not dual-boot but separate boot. When MS increments SVN number, the one first updated boots fine but the other does not. Then I disable Secure Boot and update the non-booting Windows and re-enable Secure Boot. That's all.

My main PC (see 2nd system specs) originally had Windows 7 64-bit and then upgraded to Windows 10 64-bit. That was in Legacy BIOS mode (aka CSM mode) and with Secure Boot disabled. So I planned to upgrade again to Windows 11. Due to some incompatibility in 2021 that I didn't have the knowledge to troubleshoot back then, I eventually did a clean installation of Windows 11 21H2. However I did it in Legacy BIOS mode (MBR) because my then SSD was only 250GB and I didn't want to lose any valuable disk space with the extra partitions of GPT, no matter how small they would be. It is an unsupported system, so I bypassed compatibility check anyway and was able to install Windows 11 in Legacy BIOS mode without TPM without Secure Boot. Nowadays I have one more advantage, I don't have to worry about 2011 vs 2023 certificates or other UEFI mode related issues such as BitLocker locking my system without notice.

Don't fool yourself. Having TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled doesn't mean your computer is invincible. You still have to keep your antivirus updated and watch what you do online like everyone else. The human factor is always the most secure system's weakness. It's like believing you won't have a scratch after a car accident just because you wear your seatbelt.

It's more like you keep Windows Update running, so newer Secure Boot-related files are installed.

Anti-virus isn't around when your OS is booting up. Detecting when a critical Windows file has been altered is not the same thing as knowing if it's behind in patching.

What are the chances to have a clean Windows system but infected boot sector? Not that high Microsoft wants you to believe. So if you keep antivirus updated and watch what you do online you minimize that risk, even on unsupported computers without TPM, without Secure Boot. Compare that to antivirus advertisement that make you think your computer is screwed without their product.

Other than the initial learning about it, I don't really spend any time thinking about secure boot. I boot and the system boots. In the event that the secure boot doesn't work, I will just disable it at that time in the BIOS.
