Does a Storage-only External HDD Need a 16MB System Reserved Partition?

I think it was created when I purchased and initialized the disk...in Windows. I just noticed, in Minitool, that the 14TB external HDD I have connected through a router (until I set up a true NAS) has a 16MB Reserved partition. I thought these were only needed for boot/system drives (right after the EFI partition)? It isn't visible in Disk Management but it is visible in Minitool. Can/should I delete it and merge it with the main partition (data/storage)? There is no EFI/System partition, or any other partition on the drive. Only the 16MB followed by a single large partition.

Yes, you can delete it and merge with the larger partition.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
You can delete it, but why bother? I noticed them after I formatted a bunch of new disks for my new systems. However, spending any time to recover 16MB didn't seem worth the time and trouble. That 16MB is 125,000th of my storage on the smallest drives, the 2TB NVMe drives.

I also have those 16MB on storage disks, I'm leaving them there.

Now, after a clean install of Windows 11, the EFI partition is set to 200MB, so on my laptop, I've increased the EFI partition to 200MB. The extra space is negligible.

Thanks all for confirming it appears to be normal... I never recalled it being created in the past...other non-system drives I have don't have it. As for EFI...200MB must be a newer development from Microsoft too (and good). 100MB was always what a clean install created mine at. Last year, I finally started running into issues. I couldn't update my wife's laptop BIOS (HP) because of the 100MB. It installed after I increased it. I updated all of my machines to 500MB to hopefully never have to worry about it again.

According to Garlin on this Microsoft forum, if I remember correctly, the EFI partition was increased to 200MB for the 2023 certificate update.

I performed a clean install on a computer where the partition was 200MB.
