Not true, any Windows ISO will boot from USB as long as you fromat it as FAT32 and boot from legacy BIOS.

MS win7 iso files dont have the most recent drivers so you might want to add usb3 and nvme support which is very simple. And you might need net driver.

I would also suggest manually installing the sha2 update because some recent drivers are sha2 signed and also it is needed for the mse update definitions.

easily done, d/l the msu file and dble click it.

It has got past the copying stage, yet shortly after this screen (and choosing the top option), an error occurred telling me to install again. Will be keeping you all updated here, I will select the bottom option next time.

Yep. Make sure to choose the option to NOT get updates. That worked for me. I chose custom, to wipe all of my data and install windows 7 fresh. I’ll let you know if anything goes wrong from now and the finished thing!

This old machine it hasnt NVME , but a simple SSD. Also i dont know how to write the drivers (USB and simple SSD) at USB installation stick.

very easy.

for usb3 can install the windows 7 driverframework update (windows6.1-kb2864202-x64.msu )
then install the windows 8 usb3 stack. It works for all usb3 except the recent ryzen matisse.

usb3_win7_2021.zip

nothing extra is needed for sata ssd.

to prepare the installation media:

mount boot.wim image 2
install windows6.1-kb2864202-x64.msu
install the usb3 stack
save the image

mount install.wim image ( whatever number you want e.g pro is image 3 )
install windows6.1-kb2864202-x64.msu
install the usb3 stack
save the image

3 minute job. Of course while the images are mounted you might as well add the sha2 update and anything else you fancy, e.g your net driver.

UnfortunatEly it hasn’t worked. I think the disc was too scratched. I might try the method of using an iso.

If you dont know how to service wim images, the easiest way is to use dism++
it is worth learning how to do this. When you have done it once you realize how easy it is.

I took errors for both files "unsupported device x64".

I think he means Rufus 3.22 can burn an OK ISO to stick. Perhaps it contains old drivers for win7.

those msu files are microsoft standalone updates. Just click on them and they will install themselves on the os they are intended for.

they are intended for windows 7 sp1 x64

they wont install on a different os or a different bit version. They wont install on windows 7 sp0 or on x86.

I haven’t put the iso on a usb drive, as driver issues.. loosing data if something goes wrong etc. It is flying through installation, and I am now on expanding windows files.
