Can across by accident today. I download my own .ps1 which I uploaded here some time ago and tried to run it.

If failed with:

File C:\Users\<Username>\Downloads\<Scriptname>.ps1 cannot be loaded. The file C:\Users\<Username>\Downloads\<Scriptname>.ps1 is not digitally signed. You cannot run this script on the current system. For more information about running scripts and setting execution policy, see about_Execution_Policies at https:/go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=135170.
+ CategoryInfo : SecurityError: (:) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : UnauthorizedAccess

Can be the case; In order to run .ps1 scripts you much change the policy of LocalMachine to RemoteSigned. Looked at the status:
Powershell as admin: Get-ExecutionPolicy -List

ScopeExecutionPolicy
MachinePolicyUndefined
UserPolicyUndefined
ProcessUndefined
CurrentUserUndefined
LocalMachineRemoteSigned

As expected nothing changed. Other .ps1 script are running without any problem only this dowloaded script has issues.
So what is the issue here?

What is new with 26200.8168? If you open properties you will see an new option below:
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer."
You can unblock this file by clicking on "remove block" and click on apply.
Once done. The issue is resolved and the script will run.

This extra "mark" will be applied to all files you download from an external source.
This is been done because Microsoft is ramping up their security rules for Windows.

Note: An other discovery today; I downloaded with the MCT tool the latest available version from Microsoft. To my big surprise it was 26200.9168!!...
In the past were those MCT versions were months behind. During the last try before this one I got 26200.8873. (d.d. 17-07-2026) and this was also an "in-between" version. Official releases were 26200.8737 and 26200.8875.

I hope Microsoft continues this "rule". Very useful when you are doing an "In-Place-Installment" In the past you got a lower build then the current one so you had to update to the latest build. If they keep up this "Up-to-date MCT" version that will be a thing of the past. (Incase of 8873; You can not update to the official one: 8775 because 8873 and 8875 lies to close together. I had to wait until the next one; 8894. I hope in the future they will get rid of these "in-between" versions!)

You haven't been keeping up with many of the Production Channel threads.

1. MCT has settled down to releasing an updated 25H2 ISO within 7 days after every Patch Tuesday. In the early half of 2026, the exact release date of a new products.cab file (which has the list of ISO files) wasn't very predictable. Now it's fairly reliable.

2. For July 2026, MCT made the mistake of initially releasing .8873. Everyone was greatly confused, but quietly MCT switched to .8875 around August 1-2.

Here's the list of MCT releases for 2026:

26200.7623 (Jan 2026)
26200.7840 (Feb 2026)
26200.8037 (Mar 2026)
26200.8246 (Apr 2026)
26200.8457 (May 2026)
26200.8653 (Jun 2026)
26200.8873 (Jul 2026)
26200.8875 (early Aug 2026)
26200.9168 (Aug 2026)

3. 26200.8737 is the June 2026 Preview. Which MCT doesn't provide.

I just successfully ran @garlin 's Check_UEFI-CA2023.ps1 script, and I'm on 26200.9168

I can get Check-UEFI.bat to run, but the window closes before it can be read.
I right clicked and chose: Run as administrator

Do I need to hold a key to keep the window open?
I tried PrtSc but, I'm just not fast enough. :-)

I think you are missing the point here.
It's only affects newer downloaded scripts since 26200.8168.

Did you download this script with 26200.9168 and ran that script?

Older scripts that are downloaded before 26200.9168 are not affected; they are not marked! Now they are because Windows with 26200.9168 marks them. (See properties of the file.) I also download some .zip and .rar files. They are marked as well. Can be looked into or unpacked because these are not executable files.

The reason for all this is from now on Windows don't trust downloaded executabeles or scripts. It has consequences for powershell script. Don't know the impact if you download an .exe. It will be marked also but if it would run? That I do not know yet. Tried it with downloading dxwebsetup.exe (Direct X update) and this one runs without any issues. It may because it's source is also Microsoft. It is possible that this will not be the case with a non-Microsoft product. We have to wait and see.... The solution is quite simple; remove the block.

Yeah, that doesn't work for me. I've run it from File Explorer, from CMD prompt, from powershell... etc., same result.
It runs and what ever window it runs in closes in under a second.
I checked the Environment Variables and cmd and bat are in there.

In File Explorer, I ran it from C:\ and from C:\Users\XP\Desktop and from C:\Windows\System32 ...same result, window opens says something and closes in under a second.

Ran as Admin in all cases.

I even scanned it with Bitdefender, thinking maybe BD flagged it... it's clean.
Just re-downloaded it and same issue.

I just looked at it in Notepad... looks OK.

Unless MS mistakenly deployed an App Control policy file. In a policy file, then can restrict instances of command scripts from running. Or unsigned .ps1 scripts like mine.

Normally these files are created by enterprises to lock down what their users are allowed to do.
Did you update to .9168 or perform a clean install?

I ran it IN the SecureBoot-CA-2023-Updates.v2026.08.11 folder and it works like a charm. LOL

When I looked at the code, I realized it was calling Check_UEFI-CA2023.ps1 ...but since I took the bat file out of the folder, It couldn't FIND Check_UEFI-CA2023.ps1.

Derp. :/

Do you by any chance have a script to check my brain with. :D

That's strange. I used MCT some time ago I got: 26200.8653. Official was 8655. (Including the CBS-bug that is still not resolved)
The next time; (Did not know that around 1-2 August they corrected it to 8875) I got 8873 (17-July) did a In-place-installment (same day) with this one. By the time update 8875 (official version) came along: it refused to update. (to close) I had to wait on the next one; 8894.

I have mounted the ISO's (Both: US and NL version) and asks the properties of the NL version
(The same result for the US version only the "Created" date was : 10-07-2026 - 23:58:44 and the index was 6 for the Windows 11 Pro version.)
I got this after mounting the ISO:
Code:

Both (8653 and 8873) are what I call "in-between" versions. That 7 day policy is an improvement. I just have to wait 7 days to get the correct MCT version. Fair. In the past it could take up some weeks or even months.

Is there a site where I can see which MCT versions are released? (Current and in the past...) Where can I find those "Production Channel threads"?
If they don't contain the latest update then I will not use MCT. I want to know in advance that now is the good time to use MCT. Retrying each day is not my cup of tea.

The only two cases where MS appears to have messed up MCT's schedule is .8653 and .8873. They never released .8655 on MCT.

Those are probably errors on their end. Patch Tuesday is a hard deadline inside MS, because security fixes are normally only released on Patch Tuesday (because of existing rules for responsible disclosure of reported Windows vulnerabilities). The exception being Out of Band (or emergency) fixes.

Everyone in Windows knows the calendar dates, so you work backwards in planning for the monthly releases. If your team doesn't finish a feature in time for the submission deadline, they miss the current Monthly Update and have to wait for the next one. So the Windows team sets a target build they think will be finalized at the submission date (which happens before the actual Patch Tuesday). Basic testing of the ISO has to be done before release.

It's possible for some screw up, where they planned for one version and ended up with a slightly later version. Since the 2026 mistakes only happened twice in a row, and they (quietly) fixed the second mistake and made no mistakes this month... a lot of outsiders suspect MS fixed their issues.

There really isn't an official MCT ISO list, because it's supposed to be the same build as the official Monthly Update from WU.

This ARE NOT the final install ESD's, but encrypted ISO images encoded in ESD format. They require another tool to decrypt, and another set of tools to convert to an usable ISO. MCT does all this work when it downloads the file from MS.

prob. a stupid question but can one use the "Winre.wim" from abbodi1406 list to restore a system if the existing one is messed up or gone, as reagentc /disable sometimes does not put the file under "C:\Windows\System32\Recovery" it stashes it further away what I noticed with Parted Magic, so if you try to enlarge the "recovery-partition" with diskpart one can be in for a nasty suprise when you get done and "reagentc /enable" the circus again.

If a script runs but the window closes before you see the output, just edit in Notepad and add pause to the bottom line.
@hader's current Execution Policy for PS scripts is configured for RemoteSigned (in the absence of other policy settings).

1. If you download any file from the web, most browsers will add the "Mark of The Web" to its NTFS file attributes. The only way to avoid that is to change your browser's default security policies to not mark saved files. Otherwise, you're force to run "Unblock-File" or clear it from File Properties.

When you create a script locally, it has no MOTW. But if you upload it to ElevenForum, and download it again... your browser tags it. It's the same file, but in changing hands it acquires the dreaded warning.

2. Almost nobody, except for professional devs, have signing certs; most PS scripts you see are unsigned.

They're edited in Notepad or whatever text editor, or PowerShell ISE. For security, the baseline Execution Policy is to prevent users from running unsigned scripts. When you're clicking on a file from Explorer, it might open and briefly flash "policy error" and disappear before you had time to read it. Only if you're running the same script from inside a shell, will the warning stay displayed because your shell window hasn't closed.

These type of problems aren't specific to a given Windows build.

You don't need abbodi's list, that's for expert Windows modders.

If you accidentally lose a Winre.wim file (disappears for some reason), you can extract it from an existing ISO using 7-Zip or whatever. You open "\sources\install.wim" (or .esd) and browse one of the indexes (it doesn't matter for WinRE, they're all the same version) and drill down:
Code:
1\Windows\System32\Recovery\winre.wim

Now you may have an outdated ISO, so using this extracted winre.wim is workable but not ideal. The next time Windows Update runs it will patch your out-of-date version.

Another method is to browse UUP dump, select the build that matches your current Windows, but don't create a download ZIP. Instead you enter "winre.wim" in the Search box on the second web page. Download this file and renamed it winre.wim. This is an updated winre.wim which matches the patched version of your selected build.

There really isn't an official MCT ISO list, because it's supposed to be the same build as the official Monthly Update from WU.
abbodi1406 has a curated list of the URL's extracted from the different product.cab's.

Ok, Thanks.👍That is sufficient information for me. I can just go to this page; Ibra86's Pastebin - Pastebin.com and check if a new line is added to this list. Then I know if I can start the MCT in order to get that build version. I rather use this official method then getting it from an other source and use tools to compile this into an ISO. (Like UUP)
