Hi I have had this software for a long time and I would save pictures that I like. Recently some other pictures have been found on my computer in the same folder. The file names all start with lock2023-b45_wl_ or lock2023-b45_wl_ or lock2025-b59_wl. So waht are these jpgs called lock and how did I end up with them. I have gone to the app but I don't see any settings for this. Anyone used this application. It is nice to have diffrent pictures each day and I can use some nice ones if I want.

I do have a screen at boot up when I enter a password but this is fixed by me and dosn't change from day to day. I change this picture sometimes when I am boared with the old one.

They are lock / working files used by the app’s wallpaper download/cache system.

Dynamic Theme pulls images (typically from Windows Spotlight and Bing), and these files are used to:
  • prevent simultaneous writes while downloading images
  • track in-progress or cached wallpaper updates
  • maintain internal state for the image pipeline

Why the naming looks odd

  • lock → file is used for process locking
  • 2023 / 2025 → internal versioning or update cycle
  • b45 / b59 → build identifiers from the app
  • wl → likely “wallpaper lock” or similar internal tag
It’s just developer naming—nothing standardised.

Are they safe?

Yes. Completely benign. They:
  • are not malware
  • are not used by Windows itself
  • exist purely for that app’s operation

Can you delete them?

Yes, but with conditions:
  • If Dynamic Theme is running, they may:
    • be locked (can’t delete), or
    • reappear immediately
  • If you:
    1. Close Dynamic Theme
    2. Delete the files
    3. → they will likely be recreated next time the app updates wallpapers

When to care

Only if you see:
  • thousands of them building up
  • unusually large sizes
  • activity when the app isn’t installed anymore
In that case, clear the whole cache folder.

Bottom line

They’re routine housekeeping files from Dynamic Theme’s wallpaper engine.
No action required unless they’re accumulating excessively.
