Easiest way to clone or transfer to a new computer

I remember playing Larry III. Every time you moved to a new screen, it asked for another 5.25" floppy disk. Not really convenient, so I installed it to the hard disk to play without swapping floppies all the time. My first computer was a Hyundai (now known as Hynix) Super 16V, 8088 CPU at 4.77MHz (normal speed) or 10MHz (turbo speed). Of course I always had turbo enabled. RAM was the infamous 640KB (maximum base RAM in MS-DOS, anything higher would be extended RAM). Graphics was a Paradise 256KB VGA card (up to 640x400 256 colors or 640x480 16 colors or 800x600 16 colors) with a color Goldstar VGA monitor (maximum 640x480 60Hz 16 million colors when used with a more modern PC). I had one 5.25" dual density (aka DD 360KB) floppy disk drive and one 3.5" dual density (DD 720KB) and a "huge" 40MB Seagate hard disk. The motherboard didn't have a hard disk controller, so it used a full size (from back of the desktop case to front of the desktop case) 8-bit card with the storage controller and hard disk on it (rather heavy). First OS was MS-DOS 3.3, later upgraded to 5.0 and 6.22 It could run Windows 3.0 in real mode, but I wasn't very experienced back then so I tried to run Windows 3.1 and failed because it required a 286 CPU. Never had the chance to run Windows 3.0 on it :-(

Fortunately, I can play all these wonderful DOS games in Windows 11 using DosBox.

Tip: Configure DosBox to Hercules machine. Once you start it B/W screen, press F11 to toggle white (B/W) or amber (orange-black) or green (green-black) screen! I was able to play some games in Hercules mode in green screen like I did with my friend back in the 80's!

HOW TO ADD DRIVERS TO YOUR BACKUP RECOVERY MEDIA

Why is this important? To restore a backup to the original computer OR a new computer, you may need Storage, Network and Video drivers loaded, for things to work reliably and as expected.

Macrium Reflect

Build Bootable ISO / USB - Auto detects or thorough re-scan of WIM. Wait... Select 'NVM Express controller' (or similar), then click "override" at bottom left..

Paragon Hard Disk Manager HDM

Buliding Recovery Media - Add storage, network and video drivers (.INF files).
1750275996203.webp

Veeam Agent (Backup)

Building Recovery Media - Add folders to include all drivers from each location.

NOTES / TIPS:
-> Use 7Zip to extract EXE or download ZIP file with drivers.
-> You may not know which drivers to include in your recovery media / boot CD / etc.
-> Open INF files in Notepad++ to confirm which .INF you need to select (OR just select them all!)

Questions? Contact the backup software developers and ask them some "Pre-Sales" questions, on how their software differs to XYZ software, how it might be better, and even ask what areas is it not as strong as XYZ software.

The worst thing that can happen is they don't reply to your email!

I hope you found this useful.

Don't you mean double density? 😋
Yes I started on Dos 3.0 or 3.1. I was under the impression you were older than me? I still remember upgrading DOS and having to use all the floppies. I think it was v5 that was several disks but big jump in function. Plus Windows v2 came out, then 3.0, etc...
You couldn't leave the turbo button on all the time, or you would get beaten up if you walked off the side of the screen in Larry. :D Or you would miss the action when he gets to go upstairs to the hooker. hahah Don't know how I remember this stuff form the 80's...

DosBox and F11 button. I'll give it a stab. Cheers mate!
Yes, and didn't they skip Larry 3 to 5? Even editions were "cleaner" from memory? I still remember some sort of Volcano secret hideout or layer. Not sure if that was Larry 3 which had crazy lesbians or something in the title? Wow... political correctness has changed EVERYTHING!

It was in Larry III. He returns home to find out his wife has a girlfriend! He then changed clothes in a telephone booth from "loser" to Leisure Suit Larry (white outfit), parody of Kent changing into Superman, and decides to meet more girls. In one of them leaves his credit card, a girl's best friend after diamonds. Too bad Sierra had medium quality EGA 16 color graphics! I hoped to play the Amiga version with better graphics but they were too lazy to upgrade them and are the same as the MS-DOS version! VGA 256 color graphics would have been much better experience. Playing Larry and other adventure games was a great opportunity to practice our English. Back then we had to type in English, we didn't just click on icons like in newer adventure games. I was looking unknown words in an English-Greek dictionary and had to translate the messages before I could react. I also had to translate what I wanted to type from Greek to English.
