ECC memory for non server mainboard

I can get some cheap ECC DDR4 memory for my pc and think it will work, but need expert advice.
The motherboard is an MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX. The manual states that it will accept ECC ram in non ECC mode. How does this work? Or should I just get normal dimms?

That's not possible? BC no chipset can say convert server based to normal RAM. I'm not sure but it's best to try bc server memory is cheap

It seems to mean the obvious, that you can use ECC RAM with that motherboard, with the provision that it will not do ECC function ('non-ECC mode'), which kind of defeats the object of having such RAM sticks, IMO. Anyway, check the BIOS to see if the ECC RAM needs manually enabling. AND, you may need to ensure that the CPU is also EEC compatible. For example:
Check your motherboard firmware supports one of those processors.

Uhh who cares about ecc. Normal RAM does not have it so why care? I know it's like memory saving or something
Ohh ok yeah I get it less errors means less crash but I haven't ever had any in a long long time. That ram is cheaper so why not ah ha

Unless one is running highly critical server-based applications, there really isn't a need for ECC RAM in today's home systems. The huge benefit of ECC RAM is it is less prone to failures and memory errors. As such it is more expensive than NON ECC RAM. The negative is there is a performance hit because these modules require more processing power vs NON ECC RAM.
What’s the meaning of ECC memory? ECC memory in RAM explained.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll pass on the ram offer, I have bought several sticks of ram on ebay secondhand with no problems and the price difference is not that much. I will get some Corsair LPX.
