Solved Edge not saving web page credentials

I have gone through a large number of YouTube info pages depicting this issue, but I just can't sort it out. Was working fine last night now every web page password has been lost including Facebook, amazon.ca etc. Maybe there is a way to reset these settings. I have checked and unchecked what had been suggested.
Windows 11 and Edge are up to date (Edge this morning after this started). Anything outside of Edge opens just fine. Help please. Likely just one setting that I have missed.

Check this setting first. If that doesn't work, work your way down the list. Save or forget passwords in Microsoft Edge

Make sure cookies are enabled. 3 dots-settings-cookies & site permissions-manage & delete cookies & site data-make sure all sites to save and read cookie data is toggled on

Change Privacy settings-The privacy customization of Edge allows you to delete the browsing data every time you end your visit, whether it's your history, cache, cookies, or others. Therefore, if you have allowed Edge to delete this data, it will disappear when you close your browser. Settings-Privacy-Choose what to clear each time you close browser-make sure cookies and other site data is turned off.

Clear browser data - 3 dots-history- 3 dots in history-select clear browsing data

Reset edge- be sure to export your favorites first. Also, if you don't know them you can view your saved logins before resetting. This step sets Edge to default with no extensions, no favorites, no passwords.

To Reset Edge -In Edge - 3 dots-settings click Reset Settings-Click on Restore setting to Default-click reset.

Ok, went through the above suggestions with no improvement. Not familiar with using command prompt so was unable to remove Edge. Above my pay grade I guess. Another option that I have is a 25 day old backup image on a USB3 drive. Never actually run it before. Always used Norton Ghost in the past. Liked it a lot.
Another thing that started at the same time is I use a home page http;//kadanza.ca, used it for a long time. Now it won't open the page as it is not secure. Was fine yesterday.
So, unless I can figure this out ( with your help ) I will run the Windows backup system. I has been suggested that I dump all this and buy an Apple, or to just install Chrome. Not on my wish list at the moment.

If you're going to restore from a backup anyway, why not attempt to uninstall and reinstall Edge first. The article walks you through getting into command prompt. You just copy and paste the command from the article into the command prompt. That's it.

I'm so glad the command did not work.
It dawned on me you do not have an alternate browser to reinstall Edge. That presents a problem. Most people have at least 2 browsers installed. You will have to install another browser first in order to get Edge back after it is uninstalled.
Install Chrome- Google Chrome - Download the Fast, Secure Browser from Google
Install Firefox- Download the fastest Firefox ever

Regarding the command, I should have told you that you first had to find your version of Edge. Open Edge-3 dots-help and feedback- about.
Write down your version number. That version # goes in place of 9. The following is my version. If yours is different correct the command to what you have.

The uninstall commands would be:
cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\103.0.1264.71\Installer

followed by
setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall

Restart the computer and open your alternate browser. Go to Download Microsoft Edge Web Browser | Microsoft to download and reinstall. Alternately you do a search for 'edge download'

No problem; had to be a reason. Will give it a go later this evening. FYI; I do have an install file on my desktop called Microsoft Edge Setup. Cant this be run from the desktop?? Just a thought.

I'm sorry but I would hesitate to say. Usually the edge setup file is a stub installer (a really small file)rather than a full setup file as you are used to seeing in other programs. It requires a browser to download all the files from the internet. Running the stub installer immediately starts downloading and installing the edge browser, and automatically runs the new installation and exits when it’s done. Firefox and Chrome also use stub installers. That's why you need to install one or the other while you still have edge so it can be available after uninstall to reinstall edge again..

tried the process for removing Edge. No luck so far; need a break; will try again tomorrow. just in case, I installed Chrome.

@needlenoses Sorry you're having so much trouble with this. When you attempt it again make sure you are running the command prompt as administrator as the article stated. I should have stressed that. (search-cmd-run as administrator)

Again the Commands are:

cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\103.0.1264.71\Installer (use your version #)
Enter

setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
Enter

restart computer

Go to Download Microsoft Edge Web Browser | Microsoft to download and reinstall. Alternately you do a search for 'edge download'

i did go in as administrator and this is the first line I put in manually. Tried to past it from notepad but wouldnt allow it. so tap,tap,tap...........
I don't give up easily; i jst start feeling dumb.

Notepad does not convert the long dashes correctly. The long dashes are actually an em dash (alt+ctrl+minus). I'm not sure whether this forum is converting it correctly either because I copied and pasted into the forum. 2 short dashes will also work so copy and paste it this way into notepad.
You can also enter it directly into cmd this way..

cd %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft\Edge\Application\103.0.1264.71\Installer (use your version #)
Enter

setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
Enter

Please, oh please tell me this works.

Surprise surprise; just had a chance to get after this today. Keeping the wife happy on a 90F day on the west coast.
So, cut and past was not working for me; checked the settings in Command Prompt (non-elevated) so had to type the lines in. Would have been better if I could type worth a rubbish. So, Edge is gone. I will follow the install instructions on the email. Will let you know.
Doing in next after a stiff drink.

Ok gentlemen and maybe ladies. I am accessing this forum from my freshly installed Edge for Windows 11. Still testing but the credentials in question are now functioning correctly, so far. Before I mess around in the settings ( may not have to ) I plan on doing an early image back up. Never know. Will hang on to the previous backup for a while. I have a huge amount of drive space . Thanks again.

Good. Re-install is a breeze from here. I hope re-installing solves your problem. The first time you use Edge, it should ask you if you want to save logins and passwords. FYI For next time when working with cmd line you copy the normal way from the source (right click-copy), but when you get to the cmd line to paste a right click pastes the text automatically. It's something I've been doing so long I'm guilty of taking it for granted that everyone knows it.
You will find that when solving problems in 11, a lot of the posts here will direct you to using the command line, terminal, or powershell. Using these accomplishes things that the Windows GUI doesn't include. I never learned anything about powershell commands so I have to rely on everyone else to help there.

If this doesn't solve the problem, post back and we'll keep plunking at it.

Played around in command prompt only a couple of time when directed. I should read up and at least get to know about basic commands. would help for sure. And the Edge install went fine. just got to check out some things to see if they all work now. Thanks
