Edge won't translate any more

Up to date with Windows and Edge updated this morning. But problem existed before update.

Edge has started always failing to translate web pages.

Did the setting get turned off in Edge settings>Languages>Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language I read

See if it will translate using this workaround. Navigate to a webpage not in your language, select ctrl+a, right click, then select translate text to

I found a crazy solution of temporarily trying a different language (Burmese) that worked for one user. You might try it (though I have to admit it makes little sense to me.) But it can't do any harm to try it. Sometimes Windows does crazy things and crazy things work to fix it..

Tried translating from various languages to various languages. No go. :confused:

The only other things I know to suggest to try:
1. Disable Edge add-ons & try

2. try resetting Edge settings by clicking 3 dots > Settings > Reset settings > Restore default settings values > Reset. Restart the application and check if the translator now works. (Note this sets your Edge settings back to default)

3. Make sure you have no corrupt system files that is causing this problem. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

Question: what is your language and what language you are trying to translate from? Also what is your location?

In South Africa. With a VPN in the Netherlands. Switching VPN on/off has no effect. Logged in/logged out of Microsoft account doesn't help.

SPC did find problems. Fixed them. Ran again later, found no problems.

Reset the Edge settings yesterday. All extensions now off.

Restarted numerous times.

Went to Wikipedia. Went to various language pages. Tried to translate into various languages.

Have twice done a "Modify", the closest one can get to uninstall/reinstall.

Maybe I should do a Repair Install. Don't even have to download the ISO these days. Just takes a bit of time. Still, would be nice to know what switched it off.

The Offer to Translate option is on. Translate has always been working. Now just gives the Try Again/Not Now error message,

Ran DISM to be certain. All OK.
Did a Repair Install with hope. Didn't help.
Did a full reset of Edge (including deleting User Data folder.) Didn't help.
Now it won't let me install any extensions - Download Interrupted.
