This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable Fast Boot in UEFI BIOS firmware settings for Windows 11.
UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is a standard firmware interface for PCs, designed to replace BIOS (basic input/output system). This standard was created by over 140 technology companies as part of the UEFI consortium, including Microsoft. It's designed to improve software interoperability and address limitations of BIOS.
Windows utilizes the UEFI to support the handoff of system control from the SoC firmware boot loader to the OS. The UEFI environment is a minimal boot OS upon which Windows devices are booted and the OS runs.
Fast Boot is a feature in UEFI/BIOS that reduces your computer boot time with initialization of a minimal set of devices required to launch active boot option.
When Fast Boot is enabled, you may not be able to boot from a USB flash drive unless you boot from the USB in Windows.
Here's How:
1 Boot to UEFI BIOS firmware settings.
2 Click/tap on the Boot tab, click/tap on Boot Configuration, and enable or disable Fast Boot for what you want. (see screenshot below)
The available Fast Boot settings may vary per manufacturer.
3 Click/tap on the Exit tab, and click/tap on Save Changes & Reset to apply. (see screenshot below)
