Media_Controls.png

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable media controls from Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and/or Mozilla Firefox for your account in Windows 11.

The Media controls OSD (On Screen Display) appears in Quick Settings (Win+A) and on the Lock screen (Win+L) when playing media (ex: music or video) in a supported app (ex: Chrome, Edge, or Firefox).

The Hardware Media Key Handling flag in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and/or Mozilla Firefox can enable or disable Media controls and media keys on the keyboard to control the active media session.

Nice tutorial, Shawn.

These Media Controls have been buggy for me.
Sometimes when I lock my computer, unplayable media controls for previous media that I was viewing is still stuck on the lock screen.
I'd rather disable them. It would also be better if it could be disabled from Windows settings rather than from each individual browser.

By the way. Just a minor typo in Option Three.
Option Three
Enable or Disable Media Controls from Mozilla Firefox

1 Open Microsoft Edge.

That's why it would be good if media controls could be disabled system wide instead of each individual application.
Or..., put 'em out front on the Desktop where they belong, not buried in the Systray! I use it all the time on W10

Or on the lock screen.
I have both...

One

But, it doesn't do me any good if the OSD is buried in the SysTray!
My media is almost solely controlled with mouse buttons, so I can change the source quickly, as in post 5,
can't do that in W11

I don't think you can disable Media Player OSD!
Another thing..., Media Player doesn't know how to identify what's playing!?!?!? 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

I used a different approach. I just removed WMP completely.
I use Foobar2000 for music and VLC for everything else.

I don't really care if they improved it or not.
Windows Media Player calls home, continuously.
I just want a player... I don't need a player that lives on the internet.

I don't care what the cover art looks like, or all the myriad details provided by WMP.
If I want cover art or details, I can just google it.

I can minimize the Foobar window and put the visualization window on my other monitor (TV screen).

Visualization Plugin <---- does other visualizations, but I just use the bar graph one.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I adjusted Foobar's GUI to suit.

I'll use the shrunken player or the Taskband Controls...

The thing I like about foobar is, it'll sort, scan, store, show, list and play my music by folder structure!
That's what sold me!

I gotta have my bar graph visualization. Just can't enjoy music without it. LOL
Too many years staring at oscilloscopes. :-)

Actually, music is even better on an oscilloscope. Plug say, the right channel into the X axis and the left channel into the Y axis, and the Lissajous patterns were awesome, once you got the amplitude and frequency right.
The Lissajous patterns looked like they were... alive.
Like actual biological lifeforms you might see under a microscope.

Yes, I admit it. I even went through a "sound activated party lights" (ball) phase. LOL

Old WMP if fine to me all you have to do is uncheck all it's phoning  but yeah sometimes I use vlc

Think firefox has a message and box to check if I did not want to use the feature which of course I checked and boom no more popup when simply using the speaker volume
