Solved entire win11 install iso, I can not delete, says open in system

What happens if you reboot then attempt deletion?

And what happens if you reboot into safe mode (shift + restart) and then attempt deletion?

Dont know. The red X is the win11 iso on the desktop, in the documents folder and on one drive. One drive must have run out of space, trying to back it up, is that why it is stuck?

OneDrive causing the problem, either disable it or uninstall one drive.

Usually when you cannot delete an ISO because it is open in SYSTEM it means that you have the ISO mounted as a virtual DVD drive. I see your File Explorer shows a D: DVD drive. If so, go to This PC, right-click on the DVD drive and select Eject.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

You've mounted the ISO (e.g. double-click to open/view contents will also mount it). It will have been given a (new) drive letter in Windows Explorer. Right-click on that drive letter and unmount.

You mounted the ISO. right-click the DVD Drive, then select Eject. then you can delete the file.

Where was that ISO image used? Did you use it in a VM? If so, eject that disc from the VM.

Thanks, ejecting it fixed it, now it is gone. I had used it to do an upgrade to win11.

I still have a redX on the desktop copy as one drive is out of space. Can you exclude a file from being backed up to one drive? Maybe move to a different folder?

Of course you can. Why do you want it on your One Drive ?
You can download it anytime you want.
And if you already have a good ISO on your PC, you`re wasting One Drive space.

Ok, I created a folder on the c drive, cut and pasted the win11 iso there. One drive brought up message and I selected remove files, so it is freed up the space,
