Error 5, and "File is Corrupt" When Restoring Disk Using Macrium Reflect Free on Hiren's BootCD PE

Hello all,

I'm trying to restore a disk image using the free version of Macrium Reflect included in Hiren's BootCD PE. The backup file was created recently and saved on an external drive.

During the restore process, I keep encountering Error 5, and at times Error 105 as well, causing the restoration to fail. Additionally, Macrium Reflect sometimes reports that the backup file is corrupt or unable to load the file.

Here are some details:

Macrium Reflect version on HBCD: 7.3.5925 (free edition)

Backup file is a full disk image (.mrimg), created with the same

version

The backup file is stored on a working external USB drive

I have tried browsing/exploring the image from Macrium but

get similar errors

External drive works fine with other files

No version mismatch as far as I know

I'm using Hiren's BootCD because I currently don't have access to another PC to create a dedicated Macrium Reflect boot USB

Has anyone experienced those?

This version will allow you to make your own Macrium Reflect bootable media.
In other words, you don't need Hiren's to use MR.

Update:

Just to clarify, I booted from a Macrium Reflect 8 bootable media created using the *official download* (not from Hiren's bootable media). The recovery environment is based on *Windows RE 10 version 1809 x64*.

However, I’m still encountering problems when trying to recover the image.

The *`.mrimg` backup file does not appear* when accessing the external USB drive via Macrium Reflect, even though the drive itself is detected and other files on it display normally. The file is *definitely still on the drive*, and it *hasn’t been deleted, moved, or renamed*.

When I try to manually enter the file path, Macrium returns the following error:

*"An error occurred while reading. The process failed."*

This is unexpected because:

- The file was created recently using *the same version (v8 Free)*.
- It *was visible and working* in this same environment earlier.
- *No changes* were made to the USB drive or partition structure.
- And I *don’t think it’s an empty or damaged file*, as it’s still about *~400 GB in size*.

It seems like Macrium can no longer detect or access the image — even in the official recovery environment.
Has anyone experienced this issue before, where the image file is present but doesn’t show up in the restore tab?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
