I have been using ESET since way back with NOD32 and find it kept my systems safe ever since. Some of my friends changed to ESET after I recommended it and never stopped using it either. It has given me peace of mind for many years and all programs work great through it.
IMO, it is a good choice.

cheers

Maybe ESET is good now, but some years ago (10-15) I had to disinfect several computers from viruses or malware and they all had Nod32 installed. I guess it has vastly improved since then.

Thanks guys for your input, most seem to use Malware bytes or a combo MB+ defender. There are some that say that you don't need anything more than Defender but there are some also that say the world is flat. As for 10 to 15 years ago with Nod 32 a lot has moved on. So I will install on my main machine for one year and go from there.

I use Bitdefender Internet Security AV/firewall.

I use it for the simple reason that I don't trust Microsoft Defender to do what I want it to do.
Bitdefender however... does exactly what I tell it.

I'm talking mainly about the firewall. Like if I want to block EDGE, I don't trust the MS Defender firewall to do that.
There are a few other MS Apps, that I don't trust MS Defender to block.

Bitdefender, because it isn't coded by Microsoft, does what I want, rather than what MS wants. :-)

I've been using Bitdefender Internet Security since 2013. My only complaint is that it comes with 13 modules, of which I only use... three. I use it's AV, it's Threat Defense, and it's Firewall, (RED boxes).

That's why you schedule Windows Defender scan once a week at hours it won't be too intrusive.

I've used NOD32 for 15+ years. I've never used the full security suit, just NOD32. However, with Windows 11, defender seems to keep working behind the scenes. It keeps downloading definition updates anyway and I wish it didn't. I haven't set it to run in the background. I'm sure NOD32 does a good job on it's own.
