Windows 11 Pro - Windows 7 HP 64 - Lubuntu
At home I have a desktop without a password and as I'm the only user, on startup, it goes directly to the desktop.
Today, during startup, came up a blue screen advising that my password had expired and need to be change.
So I created a password and once Windows was running I launched settings and changed the password back to blank (no password).

This is the first time I see an expired password on a computer without a password

All accounts must have a password. If you think you have none, then it's just that you have been allowed to set it to be a blank password.

And all passwords, blank or otherwise, can be set to expire.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

As Brink confirmed, all computers has no Password Expiration by default so I don't know why my did.

Anyway, using the link to Brink tutorial you provided I have just set
4 - Disable Password Expiration for Local Account(s)

Thanks @Bree

On the Win11 home OS edition (your specs say that you use pro - is that the same machine?), you would not even have a GUI to set a password to "never expire" and by default, it expires after 6 weeks. That's my experience for years, if Brink says, "by default it is set to 'never expire'" I would be surprised.
So unless you actively set it to "never expire either using the GUI of the pro version or via cmd on the home version, it is perfectly normal that it expires. I have seen that on every private machine that I have set up so far.

That is odd. I've seen the opposite on all my systems and VMs. Password expiration has always been disabled by default for me. 🤷‍♂️

I am sure that the truth is: the account that you create when setting up the PC (during OOBE) will have the flag "password never expires", while any new local account you create afterwards won't but instead obeys the default machine account pw policy which is documented to be the default wherever you look and is set to expire after 42 days. So unless you tweak your machine or unless you work with the 1st (admin-) account and no other account, you will see expiring passwords.

My account was created during Win 11 install so password should never expire.

Who knows if some update has changed so password now will expire?
