I would like to know whether various suitable Usb Video Capture Cards that i saw on good old Amazon would be ok to connect my small external dvd player to my Dell Inspiron desktop pc via HDMI port so i watch movie Dvd's on my pc.
Just curious whether this set up will work.

Thank you

You just need a usb dvd drive, you dont need a video capture device. Hdmi on a laptop is only video out not video in.

Something like this:

Then you can use software like vlc media player to play it.

Thank you for replies,

I have bought new external usb cd/dvd drive from a local Pc repair shop and connected to pc via usb and put a James Bond Dr.No Dvd in external drive then went into file explorer and looked for VOB / TS file and i use Pot Player as my default media player and opened the relevant
VOB / TS file and the Dr No Dvd starting playing.
I have in the past had tv's with built in dvd player but quality of playback is not that good.

Anyway, Dvd's are playing.

Have a night chaps.
