My PC has a very old - at least 14 years - Samsung SyncMaster 2043BWX LCD monitor. For the past couple weeks whenever the PC powers up or wakes from sleep the display has a strong red hue, most pronounced in the lower right quadrant. The color gradually improves, and by 30-45 seconds it's back to normal. Is this a typical failure mode for an ancient LCD monitor? I haven't tried powering off the monitor while the PC is asleep. That would certainly save power and (if I had been doing it for years) probably extend the life of the monitor, but at this point I worry it would do more harm than good.
