how to connect a hdmi type monitor to my hp laptop

i have this system shown below and i have a hdmi type monitor that i tried to connect to the hp hub i have this pc plugged into so i can run a external monitor as a seperate 3rd monitor. i know i can run another monitor as i tried another 24" unit but that is to big for the space i have.

so i tried one of those hdmi monitors and it will come up as an extended monitor but i can't get it to seperate from the main monitor now. what i get is 2 monitors not 3 when i have the hdmi connected. what i need to get is 3 monitors. when i put another pc monitor on i did get 3 monitors and i was able to extend the vms program over to it but it is way to larger for my space. the hdmi monitors i have are 15" and will fit on the side mount good. so is there a driver i can get to let that hdmi monitor behave as a 3rd seperate monitor?

Your laptops GPU may not support 3 monitors..

USB to HDMI adapter would be my inclination.

i had 3 on it for a bit but it was a 24" monitor and it was to large. but i have 2 hdmi monitors and they both show on the pc but they do not separate, they show as 2 monitors the laptop as one and the 2 other monitors show as just one monitor. i know if i get a 15" monitor it will work but if all i need is a driver then i will go looking for one and just use the 15" hdmi unit i now have. thanks.

ok i do not ahve one but i can look for one. but i have a hdmi open port on the hp hub now free. that worked on the 24" monitors but not on the hdmi monitors that have 2 usb-c ports and 1 hdmi port. i would have figured being they have the hdmi port they would have worked. the 24" monitor i used that same port on the hub and it worked just fine. maybe i will just get a flat 15" pc monitor thanks

I've used USB adapters many times for systems, they work pretty well.

I don't get why the monitor doesn't like your HDMI, but the USB adapter is pretty cheap and available everywhere.
