My HP laptop died in flames over the weekend

I am now on the lookout for a new desktop due to my work needs after my laptop had a strange smell and then flames.

Any suggestion greatly appreciated on what brand would be the best to buy.

budget, what you intend to use it for, do you need a powerful machine, do you want to self build etc etc etc.
