It is possible if you could buy a PCI-E Card with the appropriate Optical input Modem plugged in to a spare PCI-E slot in your Desktop.
However I'm fairly sure these are not made as people already have a WAN port on their Router suitable for the ONT box(modem).
Most people have other devices connected by WiFi/ethernet and so forth, so the market for a single function PCI-E Modem Card is too small.
It is actually a very old idea from decades ago. I had a dialup modem PCI Card in my first PC which had a telephone connector direct to the telephone socket.
