File explorer doe's not retain my prefared window size.

Whenever I open a file explorer window it always defaults to a size that is a fraction of my monitors size so I have to resize it to see anything, hovewer when I close it and re-open the file explorer the window will default back to the tiny size. I only have 1 monitor, holding ctrl while closing, doesn't work and preety much any fix that I found on youtube doesn't work.

Are you resizing it using the handles at the corners of the explorer window to drag to your preferred windows size or simply clicking on the square 'Maximise' icon?

I resize it by dragging yes, tho I just might get used to working in fullscreen all the time now.

Did you right-click on the icon and select properties....run maximised?

If you right-click on a shortcut, you will have right-click on "file explorer and select properties.

Try running tuneup.bat file to fix the OS. You will have to unzip it first. It runs SFC and DISM commands and can take a while to complete.
In my case it usually takes 15 minutes but once it took 1 1/2 hours. Someone else says it took about 4 hours on their low spec device.

I always use Ctrl + X
Shift + X also works.

That X is the cross top right of the Window.

Has to be done for every instance of File Explorer.

That assumes correct Keyboard selected, no system mods, Windows checked using SFC, DISM etc.

Shortcut properties to File Explorer are something else if you use them.

It might be "glitch" in the configuration. You could try opening Folder Properties in File Explorer and resetting everything to default values. Also, clearing the thumbnail cache and temporary files using Disk Clean-up.

You could also clear the Windows Size/Location cache.

Check other Shortcut Key combos involving Ctrl and Shift keys. There maybe some sort of pattern of ones that don't work.

Do you have a Gigabyte motherboard with the program "Smart Backup" installed? If so, that's your culprit. Uninstall that software.
