Files, folders, desktop shortcuts and apps wont open using mouse left clicks. These can be opened only by a mouse right click followed by a left click at the Open command. Left click on the taskbar still works correctly. Problem prevents making selections once the app is opened. Thus, this prevents creating and modifying existing backups. I am running Windows 11. Need help.

At this writing a new mouse also shows this problem. The USB hub was removed showing no change in performance. Performing a system restore point does not resolve the problem..Also the mouse driver is reported to be the most current driver. The system file checker found no problems.

The mouse actions are controlled by a little app "Mouse" in the control panel.
I'd first check there, to see if the left and right mouse buttons have been reversed. Make sure that all the mouse settings are correct for you.

Please let us know, if you find the source of your problem.

A check of the buttons settings in the control panel, the button exchange was found unchecked. As a test I checked the button exchange control. The problem still persited, just in the opposite mouse buttons order. Left clicks opened the menu and then a right click of the open command activated the app. A right click now was unable to ipen an app.

The only settings that I have made in the past was to increase the size and color of the cursor. I don't know of any others settings that effects the mouse performance in that way.

Also I forgot too report that a left click of the app shortcuts name still did allow the rename function. Tnx

Hi TechnoMage2021

Problem corrected but not solved. To summarize Windows 11 reported that the mouse was working correctly with the most current driver already installed. A replacement mouse did not change the problem. Removing the hub in line to the corded mouse revealed nothing. Additional Windows Defender reported not finding any viruses, before and after being updated. A two month old system restore point had no effect. No error codes had appeared.
Running the windows System File Checker reported no problems.

Lastly the PC was checked for problems booted up in safe mode. Safe mode booted up normally., the problem with the mouse still occurred. Suspecting the problem had to originate in W11 itself, a Recovery > Repair was run that successfully corrected the problem. This in spite of all the previous troubleshooting results.

Shortly afterwards the PC was showing peculiar side effects. After restoring the documents and pictures from a third-party backup system, the backup restores took a abnormal amount of time to complete. It was found that the two folders contained several hundreds of empty folders all having names matching the names of the files that had been backup.

The backups are stored on a flash drive used exclusively for the backups. A check of the flash drive it was found that its capacity showed zero free space. I can only guess, a couple months ago Microsoft unexplained end my little used access to One Drive. I have no choice but too assume that this is Microsoft idea of an early Halloween prank. Tnx for your help.

I had the same issue and it was making me crazy. I tried several mice, started in safe mode, did tons of troubleshooting hints. Still no clicking. I finally used EaseUS to restore my Win 11 system to a state before I installed the last StartAllBack upgrade. Now using SAB 3.5.3 with no issues.
