Solved Firefox 100.0 installed, just noticed 99.0 also still installed?


MY 500gb C drive is half full, I think I'd best start doing regular backups

Tried downloading macrium, which I had looked at long ago. It refused to install, telling me that the disk and folder was incorrect. Well, yes its obvious, it does not exist!!! I went through program data, program files, and other folders, I found some traces of macrium and removed them all, now nothing in the machine at all but it still says the same. After several reboots along the way. So I left it and doing a win backup via control panel.

I'm the same - I'm not worried about the system partitions / drives, as I can rebuild those myself if need be. My data is what is important, so that is what gets backed up. But size can be a problem, as I learned when the Microsoft Media Creation Tool formatted my 1 TB mechanical HDD that had all of my music collection. Ugh.

Now that you have it installed, uninstall it properly, and then try installing it again (throwing a reboot in after the uninstallation is not a bad idea, too, if it does not ask you to reboot automatically.

BTW, this kind of thing is what I was referring to in your thread wrt deleting things versus uninstalling them.

Actually, I only have 8GB of games installed and they're installed on a storage drive.
If all my games were installed... they would take up about 300GB... easy.

The items with BLUE dots are installed on a storage drive.

And I just removed the two excess 2005 Visual C++ items.
Windows 10 = 38GB
Windows 11 = 37GB

The only game I have installed on C:\ is Microsoft Links 2003 (golf)(5GB due to extra courses).
It doesn't seem to work properly, when installed on a storage drive.




I purposely kept the installs on C:\ to the bare minimum, so my backups and restores would be fast.
Backup = 2:30 minutes
Restore = 2:05 minutes

Once I'm able to get a NAS set up, I can free up the third drive to be used for game installations and free up a ton of space. I have much, much more in terms of game installations than you do, but I also have several current and recent AAA titles. About every three months I do go back and cull those I haven't played recently, but I do play quite a few for fun and for testing products.

I don't want to use my data drive for game installations, because I already have VMs there as it is, along with my data, and currently the long(er) term storage is on the 3rd drive (including my music catalog, quite a bit of storage devoted to just that).

it wont install, it refuses, keep telling me there is a drive I dont have and a folder in it!

My mistake, I misread (and thus misunderstood) when you said it still does the same.

Have you tried installing in safe mode? I don't think it will work, but it *might*. If not, it may be that you need to check the registry for bad entries and remove them. But I'd first consult with Macrium forums.

Thread has drifted quite a bit from starting out as an unexpectedly erroneous Firefox update.

That said, regarding Macrium, I mentioned I had made a backup 2 months ago just to try out the program. Yesterday when I tried a new, additional full C: backup Macrium kept stopping with 'destination drive doesn't exist' something. After 3 tries, I formatted the D: drive, even though File Explorer could see it and see the prior backup just fine. That worked. Macrium took 26 minutes for a 136GB backup.

Not sure what I missed. Guess I'll have to RTFM again... :unsure:

Good point. The Macrium discussion should probably be in the backup section lol. Although if you're having an issue with Macrium not seeing a drive when making a backup and he is having an issue seeing a drive when installing, it suggests a larger issue overall, one that may be only affecting some users.

WiseCare 365 has always caused me a lot of trouble. The tech gurus on Bleeping Computer are against this app in particular and even CCleaner.

Like anything, I suppose it makes a difference what you let these cleaners do automatically. I've had too many problems this application since the Windows XP days.
