Solved Firefox blocks Readynas RN214

I have a ReadyNas RN214 and Firefox is no longer allowing access to the admin page. I can access it with Edge just fine but Firefox just sits there like I haven't entered anything in the address bar. Nothing is returned, no error message nuttin'. Matter of fact when I click the shortcut I've had for years the address doesn't even appear in the address bar.

What is the webadress of the admin page of that ReadyNas RN214?
If it is a http adress (no https), possibly Firefox is blocking that and Edge does not.

Possibly you could do something about that in te about:config, but I would have to figure it out.

My router that has an adress http://192.168.178.1/ does function normally with the latest version of Firefox.

That's normal (working as intended). Netgear should update that poor excuse of an app - even for 2015 let alone 2025. So hey, you either try a browser that doesn't care about modern days browser security that much or...

Type about:config in address bar, copy paste the following:

security.tls.version.enable-deprecated

- and set/toggle it to true

Might help, or maybe not - but Firefox will definitely become less secure. So again, you could just use Edge instead.

It is an http://(IP). Netgear is no longer doing NAS devices...from what I could assess from their site. I have never had much luck with their junk. Matter of fact this RN214 was a warranty replacement. The 1st one just wouldn't power on one day. I guess the smart thing to do is just use Edge but I might just go on and buy a new Asustor NAS and replace it.

Just how vulnerable would I be if I made that mod to Firefox?

OR would changing any of these make it possible to use https://(IP)?

There are Firmware and Software updates to that Netgear NAS, you need to do those.
You can change to an https:// address if necessary, see the manual.
Configure Firefox appropriately, you have Edge to compare.

The NAS firmware is up to date. Due to drop of support there will be no more FW or apps available. So I think it's just time for a new device.

Also I tried

No joy there either...

please check in Firefox. settings > privacy and security
about 2/3 thirds down the page there is HTTPS only mode
check that is set to 'dont enable HTTPS-mode'

then below that is DNS over HTTPS
set that to 'off'

restart Firefox and then try the connection please.

'dont enable HTTPS-mode' was already set to this
DNS over HTTPS set to OFF

Thanks but still no joy...it appears the update to V1.36.0 changes all this because I have another PC that HAS NOT had the Firefox update to V1.36.0 and it works on that one.

So I copied the security.tls commands in about:config from the old version and compared it to the V1.36.0 Here's what I found but have no idea if any of the three new line would be the reason why FF doesn't work now...

disable the 3 added lines via about:config restart the browser and then try the connection.
you can always re-enable after testing.

just to add. it maybe worthwhile checking your firewall logs as well.

I tried that as well as turning on TRUE for security.tls.version.enable-deprecated. Still no joy. Its some change to Firefox in this latest update 1.36.0. I'll just use Edge and in the meantime I'll order a new Asustor. I have two of them and they have been great devices and are still being supported with updates from Asus and they're just as old as the RN214.

do you have 'do not track me' enabled in privacy and security as that can block local requests.
you can also try opening Firefox in privacy mode and attempt the connection.
and i am running out of ideas.
