People choose to install many Browsers over the years. They make the comparisons themselves use the Browser of their choice. Not based on manipulated stats, viral promotions, or any pretentions as to being smart.

I would prefer to use Firefox but if It's going to die a slow death at what point do die hard users decide it's time to move on, will they announce its finished at some point or try to fight back and get the browser back to where it used to be.

Hi there
If you use KDE on any Linux distro the basic browser Konqueror is really good -- and it integrates with dolphin (the file manager) really well

Nothing against firefox - I use it on Windows as my preferred browser - especially since you can optionally set menus and the toolbar bookmarking is good. I can't see firefox disappearling.

Konqueror also uses duckduckgo by default as its search engine and can be customised a lot too -- If I only used Linux then I'd switch to it completely -- especially as it integrates with the desktop nicely -- including a direct link to running the terminal in a window (the black box containing the > symbol without leaving the konqueror application ) and a decent way of bookmarking if you have more than a few regular sites.

This is sad news to me. Lately I've been too busy with hardware and domestics to pay attention. I've consistently held that user preference prevails but I think if most people knew how invasive Google Chrome can be they'd think twice before installing it on their PC regardless of whether they use Windows or Linux or both. Well, I could be wrong. More likely the average user doesn't even care.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
The lack of a built in spell check put me off Firefox all those years ago and Firefox still doesn't come with one today, people just want it to work out of the box they don't want to faff about learning about adding dictionaries and trusting they are doing it right why was it never built in?

As a longtime Firefox user, I certainly hope Mozilla doesn't go away. I'd have to find a replacement email client as well as a browser. But if it happens, it likely won't be overnight.

When i installed it it wouldn't highlight spelling mistakes i searched and the solution was to add this -

As you can see it doesn't for me and if you google it there are many users who have asked the same question over the years how many users have they lost who unlike me didn't take time to find out how to get it to work.

I have turned off the AI grammar checker mentioned above and these are my setting as you can see in the second picture its not checking spelling -

Yes and i re-set it again after reading your post just to be double sure and as you can see its stopped working again -

Mine is not an isolated case there are thousands of posts about this all over the internet it was exactly the same many years ago when i last used it if i remember right you had to add a dictionary for it to work back then.

My next guess is you have both dictionaries enabled. Right-click in a text box and choose Languages. See what is enabled.
