Solved Flash drive format

I am running Win 11 and my wife has a Chromebook 713 Spin.
Supposedly to work cross platform you format the flash drive as exfat. I did from pc to chromebook and it corrupted the flash drive. I am posting here b/c this is the Windows part and I already posted Din the Chromebook part. They suggested to format as FAT32 but there is a size limit. Why do you think exfat did not work but further it corrupted the drive? I am using Sandisc 32 GB ultra.

Fat 32 - 4GB size. Diid I post an error?
I used a flash drive with format of Fat32 and although it worked, when I backed out carefully. When my wife tried to use it, it said something to the effect of, we don't recognizre the file type please report this. I had to do a system rset. All other efforts like cache failed.
All literature ssays I can use the flash drive with NTFS, exfat and Fat32 but I encounter problems with all of them. I have read extenssively and to no avail. The Chromebook Spin 713 is almost new and is expensive or I would blame it.
It seems my issue is flash drives do not work cross platform. Any ideas?

If you want to format drive that is larger than 32 GB size i can help you with that but yes FAT32 have file size of 32 GB.

FAT32 itself has a file size limit of 4 GB. The 32 GB size limit of a FAT32 partition is artificially imposed by Windows and can be overcome by using third party software to partition the drive. Windows will read/write to a FAT32 partition >32GB just fine, it just won't create it natively.

Tools such as MiniTool Partition Wizard will format larger drives as Fat32 without any problems.

I have used it for several USB sticks & SD cards up to 512GB. Windows can read & write to them without any bother at all. As NavyLCDR said above, MS simply made the decision to omit such formatting capability from Windows.
And I can connect them to my Android phone with no read problems or additional apps required [NTFS would need an extra app, Android file managers can work with Fat32 on their own]. If I have tried writing to one in my phone it caused no problems but I don't recall having done so.

Well you can format drives over 32 GB using Command Prompt.

In this guide, i will show you how to format USB drives larger than 32GB with FAT32 on Windows operating systems.
