I literally finished installing 11 half an hour ago. Despite rebooting a few times if I right click on the desktop the screen flashes to plain blue for a couple of seconds then comes back to the desktop. I can't there for example create a new folder on the desktop. It's not a BSOD.

Hope someone can help.

I posted in your other thread about the system clock on how to do a repair install of windows. You will not lose anything, and it might get things sorted out if nothing else is working.

I have done the Windows 11 reset
Check this registry setting.
Enable Context Menu
Press Win + R to open Run.
Type regedit and click OK.
Navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
Double click on NoViewContextMenu. If you can’t find it, please create one by right clicking on blank section -> selecting New -> selecting DWORD (32-bit) Value -> naming it as NoViewContextMenu.
Change the Value data to 0 and click OK.
Restart your PC.

I have just reset Windows 11 and still have the problem that right clicking on the desktop results in e plain blue screen for a couple of seconds then comes back to desktop though it takes up to a minute to shop my pinned programs on the taskbar.

Thought I'd try the above but I don't have NoViewContextMenu at that location.

It means I have no right click menu so can't for example create a new folder on the desktop.

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the latest graphics driver from your manufacturer? If you did a manufacturer install you would also probably be right where you were before doing it. Have you redone latest update? If so try uninstalling windows latest update to see . Others including myself have been having trouble with winx right click menus after this update. .
here is something I found on Microsoft forums. Scroll down the page and read the one by Sumit.

I did a windows reset keeping programs and data but still had the problem. I found a suggestion for a windows edit to reinstate the windows 10 right click menu and now I have the right click menu back.

It was this:

Windows 11: How to Enable Windows 10-Like Right-Click Menu

That said, if the missing context menu really pisses you off, and ruins the overall experience of the new Windows 11, here's how to revert the right-click menu to the Windows 10 version.

  • Open the Registry Editor.
  • Then go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID
  • After which, right-click then select New > Key
  • And paste this code: {86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}
  • Then, right-click on the newly created key.
  • Select New > Key
  • And paste this another code: InprocServer32
  • After which, look for the (Default) key inside InprocServer 32.
  • Then, set its value to blank.
  • Lastly, close the Registry Editor and Restart your PC.
And that's it. Your right-click menu should show the context options again, just like the old times.

However I'm sure it didn;t come back after that editing and rebooting. It came once before then disappeared.

Was this a clean install where all partitions were deleted making an unallocated drive?

Had you considered an in place upgrade repair or another clean install?

Yes and trying anything to avoid it. It will take days and weeks to get all my software reinstalled.
I'll try anything that doesn't mean reinstalling programs.

Please uninstall any of these non-Microsoft software:
a) antivirus
b) firewall
c) drive encryption

Then perform an in place upgrade repair: (download the iso to the desktop unless you've saved the flash drive)
