I was just looking to clean up some old pictures and screenshots and maybe something for enhancing 1K to 4K.

Now I don't know what AI adds to the mix (apart from good for advertising the product) but when I needed to enhance some very faded but precious wedding photos I turned to my trusty old PaintShop Pro 7.04.

Despite being quarter of a century old software it could do all the enhancements I needed, in particular correcting for the faded dyes in the printed photos. Ant the big bonus is that it still works just as well in Windows 11 24H2.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Personnally i've tried a video enlarger AI, belonged to DVDFab, now called Unifab enlarger AI. It can be tested for free, if anyone wanna try.

Hi folks
Not sure what A.I brings but could be useful. However for an almost like Photoshop clone and FREE - regularly updated and works on both Windows and Linux (same GUI) why not try THE GIMP. It's almost good enough for even serious pro photographers to take it seriously.

Note for photos / stills etc - not a "DVD" enhancer - you need some sort of DVD authoring program for that -- but possible something like Handbrake (Free) might work as a decent "Up-rezzer" -- although it's quite slow and very CPU intensive. Runs on both Windows and Linux and is free and is a good no Ad driven video converter too.


The Gimp has Has layers, whitescale etc etc.
