Frequent, but irregular, Windows system sounds from computer

My HP desktop makes occasional (about every 15 seconds) system sounds while running- but not when being actively used. Any suggestions on how I might track down the source of the sounds?

is your monitor connected via usb for powered usb ports on the monitor?
Also - check your pci power in advanced power options and set it to 'off'
Also 2 - what brand is your monitor(s)
What’s the chance that you’ve been pranked? This is exactly like the stuff some people at work do pretty frequently.

Monitor USB ports? Yes, but they don't appear to be working based on trying to use a flash drive.
Made the Link State Power Management setting change, but did not solve the problem. (Amazing guess, though.)

I like the suggestion as my wife and I both work from home and I'm her only 'coworker'.
