There is a very low electrical resistance in the interior of the body (in range of 300 ohms or so). An electrical signal of 30 milliamps is enough to cause heart failure. A 9 volt battery will pass 9/300 x 1000 = 30 milliamps!

I should be dead then. I can't count all of the times I checked to see if a 9 volt battery was dead by putting it on my tongue.
