I spent 4 hours on this last night...
Background:
- Way#1: I entered gmail.com into the browser.
- Way#2: I went to gmail.com and tried to switch from the account it was displaying to foobar@
what happened next applies to both Way#1 and Way#2.
- When I input foobar@ I was asked for my password. I input my correct password and it was rejected.
- I did this two more times and was rejected.
- The third time I enabled [Forgot Password?] and changed the password.
- I tried again to get onto gmail using the second password and was rejected.
- I tried again...using the first password, and the second password and both times was rejected.
Why is it not possible to enable two Indent Lists on one email???
- Finally, I tried another tact. I went to another browser and found gmail activated for foobar@!
----- I delved into my user preferences to manually change my password. (this turned out to be very difficult--there was no straightforward way to change my password through my preferences.)
-----When I tried to change the password, Google asked for my password. It rejected my password.
-----I don't remember what I did next, only that I did things for about an hour, all to no avail!
----------What did happen was that eventually Google seemed to tentatively accept my password, forced me to verify (2-step), AND THEN WANTED ME TO ESTABLISH A THIRD METHOD OF VERIFICATION that I think it called a backup-something. I did not know what to give Google-I only have one cell phone. It was at this point that I quit.
Today
- I tried to log into foobar@ using the second password. Google accepted it in this manner.
What is going on?
What does Google want from me?

- Google seems to be trying to eliminate user accounts that users are not using enough.
- I have had some old accounts (over a year) questioned and then eliminated...
- An account I have not used for maybe 2 months is now coming into question...
- Google is impossible to contact.
- Google used to want us to use two-step verification.
- Now Google seems to want the equivalent of three-step verification.
- I am using the moniker [email protected] to represent the real name of my account. I will refer to it as foobar@ from now on.
- I believe Google is trying to get users to adopt one password, whether they like it or not.
