GNOME Evolution fails to run: A WebKitWebProcess crashed when displaying the message.

Wsman Shell commandLine, version 0.2.1. Description: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. A WebKitWebProcess crashed when displaying the message. You can try again by moving to another message and back. If the issue persists, please file a bug report in GNOME GitLab (appears you have to pay to join). Problem started when MS forced an update to Win 11 on 10 July 2026. Some of the many Ubuntu errors include:
libEGL warning: failed to get driver name for fd -1 libEGL warning: MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information AND (org.gnome.Evolution:11129): mail-notification-WARNING **: 11:38:39.813: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.Notifications was not provided by any .service files AND
ALSA lib confmisc.c:855:(parse_card) [error.core] cannot find card '0' ALSA lib conf.c:5207:(_snd_config_evaluate) [error.core] function snd_func_card_inum returned error: No such file or directory AND ALSA lib confmisc.c:422:(snd_func_concat) [error.core] error evaluating strings.

How do I fix this problem? I have no training in IT, especially anything to do with troubleshooting Linux issue. PC is hp laptop 17-cp3005dx. hp support forum does not want to help. Claims it is a MS problem. However, at least one error message (libEGL warning: MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information) appears to implicate AMD RADEON graphics system. GEDIT opens but gives cigtoxdoc@LAPTOP-TCRMNQRV:/mnt/c/Users/cigto.LAPTOP-TCRMNQRV$ gedit (gedit:29252): Gdk-WARNING **: 12:01:20.524: Tried to map a popup with a non-top most parent

I have 2 pages of error messages I can post or send if someone needs to see the whole thing.

    This is stock Dell 7720. Only thing not stock is that it is dual boot with Ubuntu Unity 25.04 and SSD has two exFAT partitions for my files. They can be accessed by both Ubuntu and Win software.

ALSA is your sound system. i beleive the workaround for that is use it via remote desktop.

webkit is the evolution web browser engine. that is normally plugin based.

if you are running this in VM use Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to see if that bypasses the problems as 26.04 is still not at its first point release yet.

Thank you for your replies. I thought I had clearly posted the error. Messages in Gnome Evolution do not display, and I get an error message instead of the real message. This only happens with the hp laptop and I run Gnome Evolution under WSL and Ubuntu 26.04 running on WSL.

I posted all the error messages so that those with real expertise in Gnome, Webkits, etc., could tell me how to fix the problem.

Please note that I am running under WSL and not a VM. Indeed, I would not know how to get a VM installed.

BTW, I have Ubuntu 26.04 running on several other laptops and desktops, and they are all running same version of Gnome Evolution. So, what do I need to do to fix the problem? I have posted on hp support forum and been told to contact MS. MS does not want to deal with it either. It points me to GitLab. Does anyone know if that group can help me?

It doesn't differ to use XUBuntu if you face from Ubuntu some problems with WSL.
