Solved HBA IT MODE - Am I Being too Picky?

This is annoying the crap outta my OCD. As some of you know I'm trying to wrap up my X99 build and move onto my X299 build. My HBA cards are in and everything on the IT card appears to be working correctly. All of the drives are SATA (not SAS) and everything appears to be in order in the configuration utility on this card.



But once I close out and reboot I get this instead:



All the drives are accessible and in working order. Why am I getting 1,0,2,3,4 etc. here and not 0,1,2,3,4 instead?? I've tried swapping out drives, power cables, data cables and I still get the same thing.

Perhaps someone familiar with HBA cards can assist me?
My drive order used to be fine until I cleaned up my PC and gave it a bit of a restoration.

Problem fixed. Drive 0 and Drive 7 were unswitched (direct connect) drives. All remaining drives were using a switch box. So, switch #1 interrupted power to drive #1 and so forth all the way to drive #6. I ran out of interrupt switches for 0 and 7 so I remedied this by interrupting all drives from 1 to 6 and manually disconnecting drive #7. This forced the HBA card to recognize drive 0 and place it in it's appropriate order in the list. Then I rebooted and switched on power for drive #1. The list order read as 0, 1. I rebooted and switched on drive #2 and the drive order read as 0,1,2. I continued this process, rebooting each time I switched on a new drive. When I got to drive #7 I simply turned off the PC and directly connected the drive. All of the drives are hot plugged so I can switch or unswitch them safely. The table reads correctly now.


I guess I panicked for no good reason. Problem solved.

Thank you Steve. The missuz often accuses me of obsessing but details matter. Today I spent two hours trying to get all my ram to show in the same build. For some reason I had to re-train the RAM. Makes no sense considering I didn't even remove the RAM. Just some dumb glitch.


Everything checks now. For a moment I thought I had lost my overclock but according to Task Manager it's still there.

What's a switch box for drives? How/why do you use itI guess I panicked for no good reason. Problem solved.

We all panic at times. Especially when the system blue-screens

Essentially it is a module with a row of interrupt switches that fits in the front your PC. I suppose not many know about them these days because the front of a PC these days generally houses little more than glitzy looking fans. But back in the day, when appearances came in a close second to utility, a PC builder had a whole lot of options at his or her discretion when it came to modifying their personal computers. One of those options was known as front bays. Apart from housing ROM drives, floppy drives, card readers, handy pop out compartments, RAID cages, additional USB connectivity, digital mini-screens, etc. etc. a person could pop in a switch box and air gap their drives in their PC simply at the single push of a button without even getting out of their chair.

These units used to be relatively inexpensive but they have certainly gone up in price. Seems a shame, really.

My PC didn't blue-screen. What you're looking at in the first picture is a configuration utility GUI listing one of my HBA arrays. I was concerned that perhaps one of my HBA cards had a glitch or something worse because booting directly to the card(s) showed that one of them was listing the drive order incorrectly. What it was registering was the order in which the drives were introduced to the card. The data lines were all numbered correctly but the order in which the drives listed were not. Hence, I was getting a reading of 1, 0 instead of 0, 1.
