HELP Winaero Tweaker has damaged my Win11 system

Since you said you are 70 and have eye strain and headaches I'd offer the following thought.

I am 75 and over the last year have noticed a deterioration in my vision that is greater than usual (I've worn glasses since I was 6). I have recently been examined by both an optometrist and retinologist and have been diagnosed with dry macular degeneration (AMD). This is a progressive condition with no corrective treatment. I have been told that I can expect my vision to deteriorate significantly over the next 5 to (if I'm lucky) 10 years. My stepmother had this condition and so I have some idea of what to expect.

For me this deterioration is most notable when using my computer and particularly my phone. Small fonts have become significantly harder to make out. I expect that like you I will soon be looking for ways to tweak my devices to compensate.

You might wish to get an eye exam with retinal scanning to see if this might be the case for you. If so, getting an Apple ain't going to help.

The system was such a mess that I had to reinstall Windows 11. Actually, Microsoft had to install Windows 11 FOR me remotely.

Every time I touched the taskbar, search, and most things on the screen, the open window or items on the screen flashed over and over. It acted as though there were no longer ANY system font defined ANYWHERE. I did attempt to use a Restore Point, but the restoration could not complete. I could not interact with the system. So no, I didn't try winaero to fix the problem.

Oh, my eyesight is fine. I can read tiny font on my old Windows 10 machine (no upgrades). I can read tiny font on my Win 7 machine, and on my android phone. It is ONLY the Win11 machine that I can NOT read -- without eye strain and headaches. The best solution I have found is to remove the "big new" screen and use an 18-year-old Dell "square" (5:4) monitor. Apparently windows uses a very old generic driver, and THAT does a much better job of drawing the letters (even the system font). I do have astigmatism, and things are naturally a little "skinny". Win11's new "faint, skinny" font, (fuzzy) scaling, and "improved" drivers make things MUCH worse. ALL my problems are ONLY related to Windows 11.
